Collision detection is a bit off, but otherwise quite ok Arkanoid-clone. Last edited by el_pasi; 13 December 2017 at 14:22. |

It has been pointed out that the original ADF linked has a scoring bug with the ball sticking to the bat. For this reason, ADF users can use this version, which has been tested and works ok.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/c1biau9lyz...%20YUCS%5D.zip The WHDLoad version doesnt contain the ADF bug and is ok. Players of the old ADF are encouraged to beat their scores - as scores from the bugged ADF wont be acceptable as a league score if carried over to the end of the round. But its still early days so lots of time to improve. Last edited by lifeschool; 17 October 2017 at 16:57. |

I used the version that releases the ball after a few seconds but it's still worth it to use the sticky powerup and "collect" enemies. After getting 14k scores around level 6 playing normally before I now scored 32k only reaching level 3 using that tactic:
32,789 Should we maybe modify the rules? Since the ball is released after a few seconds it's not leeching but it's also not much fun to play this way. |

How could we modify the rules John?
I tried to recreate this, but if there are no enemies around, or I keep missing the green pickup, or I keep dying, or I rush with the bat to kill enemies the ball flies off at a bad angle and is lost. We always exploit game bugs in the compo, even it it means doing things beyond what the makers intended. If you can get it to work then thats fine, its all part of the game, and we can all learn from it, even though its boring, its still an improvement in player score. I noticed on the longplay, very few of levels seem to contain any collectables at all, so you will probably be right, and it will boil down to who can milk the first level, and then progress over the rest. Thanks for the link to the alternate version - I've updated the original post and added some nice bold blue text so hopefully (along with the posts here and on Lemon) nobody will miss it.

Had a gentlemen's agreement in mind similar to Turrican II, but I don't think that's practical.
Will be interesting to see what kind of scores we can achieve with this tactic. There is one possibility to leech though: if only 1 block remains you could potentially miss it forever on purpose. We must not do that. |

If we are to use that rule, then really it needs to be stated that you must always make reasonable attempts to hit the remaining blocks on each level in all circumstances. |

That said I just got to this green level and hitting those obscured blocks is hard enough at the best of times, even when you have the sticky bat. Several thousand points were scored during the attempt.

There's a lot of rubbish arkanoid clones released prior to '90 and this one is somewhere in the middle. Full framerate and decent size playfield but the gfx are pretty rough and controls seem a bit 'off'. For pre '90 I think behind arkanoid, giganoid would be next best, followed perhaps by crystal hammer And the collecting objects with a stuck ball thing.. I don't think it should be allowed at all, massive scores would follow and the leaderboard would blow out - not to mention it's a crap way to play |
