Eye of the Beholder 1, any install, can't always save

I've restarted EoB 1 again, after some year.

I need to play an installed version, so to edit easily the savegame for research purposes.
Therefore in Winuae (last beta: 2.4.2), I tested:

On a bare ClassicWB 3.1:
- the ECS multilanguage version by CFOU! with and without the WHDload install;
- the original WHDload SPS version;

On a bare Workbench 1.3:
- a fresh install from the original SPS disks.

All three versions have in common only that the savegame file (along with the rest of the game files) sits in a Windows directory mounted as HD, which, in case of the Workbench 1.3 test, is also the system's one.

All the dependencies are all right AFAIK: all the ones I know about the WHDload versions; I'm not aware of eventual ones from the original install (the third test)

In all the three tests, the game loads, you can load a previous savegame, if present, or start a fresh one; you can start to play.

Then if you try to save: the WHDload versions never succeed in create a savegame; the original installed version succeeds in the firsts tries, then that too fails.
In all the three tests a blinking (like it continuously check the disk and fails) EoB requester asks to insert the Disk 2 (the one in which the original savegame sits).

What may be the issue?
- is this something caused by some priority issue in access the mounted hdir?
- has something changed in Winuae about that? (the last I played an installed version of EoB was years ago, but I do not remember anything about savegames)
- is this a inherent flaw in EoB program?

Attached the two Winuae logs.

Seems to work fine here.

Perhaps it attempts to check free space and does the usual 32-bit signed overflow if drive size is over 2G and "free space mod 4G is larger than 2G" = negative free space.

It was usual size check overflow, thanks to OP for doing some testing.

Next WinUAE beta will finally have option that makes all directory harddrives to appear as less than 1G harddrives. (Less than 1G just to be sure, some programs may also overflow string buffers)
