I must admit that loading from floppies was a pain in the arse for me even 'back in the day'. But a pain worth enduring to play the games contained on them.
To think there was a time when floppies were pretty much the fastest, most reliable way to store and transmit data!? |

The highlight of my gaming was when the screen would tell me to put my floppy in the slot. The more times I had to swap my floppies the better the experience for me. Street Fighter IV on teh 360 using floppies.....GOLD.

I absolutely loved floppies. I had wanted a floppy drive for so long for my Commodore 64, but could never afford one (they were quite pricey!).
So when I finally got an Amiga, I thought the loading times were really short. I remember playing Monkey Island 2 from floppies... and I had no troubles, didn't bother me at all. In fact, I don't think I even thought about it. 11 floppies, btw I had them spread out on the floor so I could easily find the one requested. |

I had an Atari 65XE before my Amiga so it seemed really quick loading.
The noise while some games load is really nostalgic for me, especially games like Lotus 2. It does that double grind noise just before the intro music. I remember me and my mates would know usually when the games had loaded by the sound. It's almost like listening to a song in some respects. |

With my first Amiga 500 floppy drive was really silent but my second A500 have loud drive which I don't like so much (it's not so loud as DreamCast cd-rom but still too much for me). I like knocking but not banging...

I never even thought about it, disks was (and still is for me) the shiznit. For a very long time my opinion about harddrives was that only offices and BBS'es used them. I got my first HD in 1995 (52mb) and still I haven't quit using floppies to this day. I have nothing but love for them (Amiga floppies that is), each disk has its own personality. Especially pack-disks makes my spine tingle. I'm pretty weird that way I guess. Snail-mail disk swapping ftw!

As a C16 & C64 gamer with only a C2N Datasette I found floppies to be the holy grail back then.

Recently had the 'joy' to see realtime emulated cassettes on OpenMSX again... Try it and you will love floppies as you did back then
