CD32 titles that work with the CDTV?

Hello my learned Amigans

I was wondering if anybody knew of a list or site that has tested some CD32 released games on CDTV, not CDTV & CD32 like the excellent Defender of the Crown II.

I am of course talking about the games that ended up on CD format but had no update in the graphics to AGA format or even ran any faster. For example, do things like Lotus trilogy work on the CDTV?

The first two Lotus games are identical, my only doubt is that Lotus III on CD32 is running much smoother, twice as smooth, as it does on an A500 but I remember the game not working that well on my A1200. So perhaps there was a later update for the disk versions that included whatever optimisation happens on the CD32 release?

(yes this is going to be a small selection of games if they even work but if you want to use a CDTV you'll take anything extra to add to the library)

I guess CD32 games, even ECS ones, recquires the CD32 kickstart to load...
Even Beneath a Steel Sky isn't AGA by the way. I always wondered if it was possible to convert these games in CDTV format for those that have this machine

Before you all the CD32 have a different bootloader (Trademark) from that of the CDTV, a CDTV sees a CD32 as an audio CD (the opposite, on the other hand, works).
Regarding compatibility games this should not differ, what makes them incompatible are the menus or some incompatible commands that are in the Startup-sequence to all systems that do not have a Kikstart 3.0 / 3.1.

We confirm that Lotus Trilogy originally did not work on A1200, then a Crack-Fix was released which made Lotus Trilogy compatible on A1200 HD and on an A600 and A500 with HD and 2MB of RAM.

Lotus Trilogy also uses custom (RNC) loader that directly accesses CD32 CD hardware to load data and play audio tracks.

My humblest thanks to all those who have chipped in and enlightened me, I only just got a CDTV last month.

I guess too few CDTV units were ever sold (50,000?) to warrant people making sure games with OCS graphics and 7mhz 68k game engines also did not do anything that a CD32 will run but CDTV firmware couldn't.

I just tried my Kings Quest 4 (Supposedly for CDTV + CD32) Image
under CDTV emulation it just stops on a DOS screen and eats about 200 K
Works fine under CD32 emulation.

Almost certainly it is a CDTV version, as mentioned normally the CD32 native CDs on the CDTV start as an audio CD. I do not have the Kings Quest 4 CD to check why it does not start with the CDTV.

I think that question is wich games work with CD / boot from CD, if CDTV has a kickstart 3.1.

Not enough Kickstart, CDTV and CD32 have two Bootloader different from the Chip memory end CPU difference.

Out of curiosity I've rebuild 3 cd32 discs with cdtv.tm
Arabian nights - Resets immediately
Battletoads - too
Lost Vikings - Reach the main menu and then it prompts wait for disk activity to finish...

Arabian Nights CD32 it will never be able to boot from a CDTV, in the Startup-sequence as well as having the native setpach 3.1, as Toni says
they use custom (RNC) loader, Arabian Nights it has no audio tracks

On the Arabian Nights CD there are two setpatch (v40.12 and v39.6) to be executed is that placed in the Root of the CD.

In any case, even replacing the setpach and adding RMTM the ISO created for CDTV will not work anyway for the reasons mentioned above.

Arabian Nights CD turned into HD and a small change also starts from Hardisk but only from CD32 (or A1200/A4000 hybrid KickStart CD32/CD32 Extended Rom)

You'd be better off trying to burn & run DOS games (like another world) with standard CDTV TM than trying to run CD32 adapted games.

- AGA games won't run (obviously)
- others are often just CD32 adaptations, so specific for the CD32 joypad & CD32 drive, which is completely different hardware from the CDTV.

Yeah I thought of going throu hol looking which ocs ones are hd installable but not owning a cdtv I'm not very keen on doing it. If I had cdtv, by now I would've probably do that and check cd32 library to find a game that could've work as is on cdtv.

there are many OCS games that are HD installable, so maybe you can create a good compilation for CDTV.

Yes, many OCS/ECS games can be adapted, but it is always necessary to make some small motions for example, adding the RMTM command to the top of the startup-sequence.

CDTV compilation would be cool (well for people owning a CDTV...). Just make sure that the game doesn't save to HD... A lot of DOS games (cracked if physical copylock or such) would qualify, like Another World, Flashback, 4D sports ***, Test Drive II, Formula one grand prix, Moktar/Titus the fox ... the list is huge.

(and this compilation would also work on CD32 )
