WHDLoad Game Icons Under Workbench Appear as Dots
Hello! I am sure this has been asked before, but WHDLoad game icons show up as dots under MagicWB. Some display alright, but most of them are just a black dot. You can still click the dot and the game loads... I think this is an icon incompatibility thing - is there any way to solve it? Do other people use a workaround to show some nice icons for the games? I am under MagicWB with Workbench 3.1. Thanks!

That is because they are using NewIcons. If you do not have it installed, it will only show the regular icons which in most cases is just a dot.

Or you can use PeterK's excellent icon library.

When I run the IconLib_46.4 script it complains that I don't have icon.library. Is it possible it doesn't exist on OS3.0? Should I be installing something else?
I get icons for normal apps but not for the WHDLoad games. |

I have IconLib46 running on my KS3.0 machine. Maybe you have an old version? It used not to be supported but now it is. Get the latest if you don't have it.

Thanks Akira, maybe when AmiNet comes back up I can see if there's a newer version (I got mine from the ftp). Did you run the script which generates the library first, or was the library prebuilt in the lha?

You don't need Aminet, PeterK posts it here at EAB (look at the attachments on the first post):

I'm having this problem on 3.1.4.1 on my Amiga 1200.
I'm using PeterK's icon.library 46.4.536 from http://aminet.net/package/util/libs/IconLib_46.4. I copied icon.library_68020 to LIBS:icon.library and added the following before SetPatch in my startup-sequence: C:LoadModule LIBS:icon.library But WHDLoad game icons are still dots, whereas the GlowIcons for Workbench are fine. I must have overlooked something? |

OS 3.1.4.x needs no LoadModule instruction to load Libs:icon.library.
But you may have to check Prefs/Workbench and untick "No NewIcons". I hope you didn't save these dot icons before, because then you need to replace the images with CopyIcon or Workbench=>Icon=>Information again. Last edited by PeterK; 18 December 2020 at 11:40. |

However, the advice about LoadModule is most useful. I misinterpreted the following documentation as applying to 3.1.4: Of course, it's required to load the icon.library into memory if you want to use it with AmigaOS 3.0/3.1. I have removed the superfluous LoadModule from my startup-sequence and all is still well. Thank you for all your hard work on this library: I'm amazed how much you've managed to do in just 29 KiB. |
