Matt interviews Bob Jacob of Cinemaware

Hi, guys. I know you're going to love this! In this week's episode of Matt Chat, I interview Bob Jacob, co-founder of Cinemaware and thus responsible for some of the best games ever made for the Amiga. In the interview, Bob talks about all kinds of stuff, including why he liked the Amiga and why Commodore and Cinemaware eventually tanked, as well as the story behind Defender of the Crown and The Three Stooges.

We also talked about many other things that I saved for future episodes.

Amazing video So great to see the guy that made games like DotC, It came from the desert (hope to hear more about that one) and Three Stooges talk about them. Of course the Amiga praise at the start has a little influence on my opinion Great episode

Hehe. Yes, he talked about all the games, including Rocket Ranger, TV Sports, etc. Some of the games he didn't have much involvement in directly, but still had fun stories. Eventually I'll cover more Cinemaware games and will work in the footage.

Bob is a cool bloke, anyone who states that they were "A fanatic arcade game player" is OK in my book...

This is a great Matt Chat episode and it is begging for a part two and possibly even a part three as I bet Bob had loads more to say.

Nice comments about the Amiga Matt!

Thanks, guys. Also special thanks to Gilgamesh for getting me his email address. Now I'm wondering who else we can get! I've interviewed Rob Hubbard and Ron Gilbert in the past, though it might be harder to get them to do skype. I think I might do a normal episode next time. The countdown to 50 is getting closer!

You should try and get hold of Dave Haynie, now that'd be a catch and a half!

He's quite easy to get hold of, his eBay username is floating around here somewhere...

Defender of the Crown sold a lot of Amigas. Great interview! Jim Sachs once said that no one works for Cinemaware twice.

Really? I wonder what the context was for that remark. Bob seemed like a great guy to work for.

was the most amazing gfx experience when it came out
remember like bob said there was no compression or anything in them days
so to see full 32 colours in a game was quite new, he aslo says that it might not have happend with out dpaint which I can well agree with

I think Jim didn't get the royalty or get paid enough.

On a related note, I asked Jim how come there wasn't Greek fire or disease in the Amiga version like C64. He replied that they ran out of time.

Awesome video!

Glad to hear there's even more to come, can't wait!

Cinemaware is one of my favourite Amiga developers.
