How to update FS-UAE

I am a new user of FS-UAE and following some video tutorials managed to get my whdload collection running flawlessly. However I realised I need to install a dev version instead. How should I go about it, updating my current version and retaining my configuration at the same time?

Should I simply extract/install the new version on top of the old one?

I installed a second instance of it, and just moved stuff around

I don't think you need a developer release to run whd-games. You just need to install a working OS3.1 System in fs-uae.
On top of that you can install WHDload and then run the games.

edit: whdload-usr is enough.

I wasn't clear enough, sorry. I needed a dev version in order to get various improvements. WHDload games run fine with the working release too.
