Definitely, they were on the Amiga. I think they released games to a consistently high standard that very few could match.

I would agree they were among the best of the various Amiga developers out there back in the day... not sure I played a lot of their C64 stuff, if I did I was too young to know who were behind the games I was playing.

I think i may have misunderstood Cannon Fodder at the time. Despite my really trying to get on with the game, to me it seemed a bit random. War is i guess and so i would probably need to embrace that mechanic before i could enjoy the game. I used to load this in just for the recruitment music screen- both versions had excellent songs here
Sensi is the most obvious that people point to and it's an excellent game, just not as good as KO2- a minority opinion i'm sure but Sensi lacks the more subtle interaction between ball and player. Sensi has it's own depth there and is actually probably a better representation of the sport than KO2, but it's restricting in other ways regards to those found better in KO2. Sensi is tighter and perhaps more intuitive Wizball though borders on genius i think, though it can be a little frustrating Great company well deserving of the praise it recieved- more so than Team 7 in fact- and unlike most of Team 17 games, their games had both loads of polish and more finely crafted gamepay |

If Cannon Fodder was a COD style dev game with a 250 large crew it would have been possible to finish the game, now it is ur typical Amiga game, fun in the beginning, impossible in the middle and unplayable in the end because of difficult level.

Impossible when you don't know HOW ! Each map has been tested, and can be finished. It's up to you to find how to deal with it.

I completed Cannon Fodder when I was ten... nothing very impossible about it. The later levels are very tricky but extremely well designed.

Hehe, yeah, back from Bogota!
You can really see how much love Jon has for the Amiga here. I guess it's too bad they didn't jump on the DOS bandwagon earlier, though. There must have been a lot of devs that got burned along with Commodore back in the day. |

Part 3 was great too - thanks Matt!
Did I hear right - Jon mentions at 17.50 that the Atari ST - aka "door wedge" - was known for having the better sound chip "and not much else". I hope he was just referring to the midi ports being its main purpose! As we all know, its sound was average at best, one of the worst sound chips for 16bit, but the chip tunes were fun to listen to. Must say I really enjoy hearing John Hare talk. His passion for what he does really shines through. And he's a pretty funny guy. Another nice Matt Chat!

That's what he probably meant Matt (thanks for the link, interesting read) and Lorfarius. Rather than the sound chip itself being better, he probably meant the MIDI ports and music production.
With the subject at the time being games however, just made it sound like he thought the ST had better in-game sound. I myself had a keyboard hooked up to an ST before I sold it for an A500. It was indeed great for music! |

Atari had Cubase... that's pretty much your whole advantage there.
The Amiga had a fair share of great midi software but Cuebase was always regarded as the go-to tool for pros. And Atari falcon had a bulit-in DSP chip. |

I seem to remember some people (Kiki?) from Newtek saying that was a huge point of discussion there at the time too... That they should have moved away from the Amiga sooner. Although that's tougher to do with a hardware/software packing like the Toaster.. Great interviews Matt!! Thanx, desiv |
