Odd freezing problem
Hi,
I've got a bizarre issue with WinUAE. I'm using 1.6.0 but can also reproduce it in 1.53. Whenever the emulation is started, or the amiga resets, WinUAE freezes for about 10 seconds. By freezes, I mean its cpu usage drops to 0 and the window stops accepting input (and turns white eventually, so the message loop is not running). After 10 seconds, it carries on as normal. I'm pretty sure it didn't used to do this on 1.53 but it does now.* My system is an Intel Core2Duo E8400, 4G ram, Geforce 7600GT, Windows XP64. I'm a C++ programmer too, so feel free to ask me to try and get a trace in Visual Studio for example It does appear to be stuck inside a kernel32.dll function although *I can't tell which one because there's no symbols. |

Judging from its rareness (i. e. I've never read about a similar issue like yours before), it could be a 64-bit-OS-only issue; perhaps it happens on Vista 64 too.

Quite possible but I am wondering if there is anything I can do for Toni to help find out whats causing it.

I used to get this problem all the time, when using CD32 config, then toni told me to alter compatability slider and it worked fine. |

(most likely nothing to do with WinUAE, stupid driver, perhaps ROM path to non-existing network share, so many possibilities..) Not really because I have had 64-bit OS since Windows XP 64bit was released.. |

Yeah, I have downloaded the 32 and 64 bit symbols for XP64 now. I haven't had a chance to look at where it's sticking, though.
Hmm I do have some network shares mounted but all paths are local folders. I even tried deleting the config files to rule stuff like that out. Is it possible WinUAE is simply doing some "available devices" check that hiccups on that? One of the mounted shares is to my iMac, which is sometimes turned off. |

Confirmed, it's SMB stupidity. Gah.
