An Aparently Non Existant Vidi Amiga...

Yesterday my mate Gav gave me a box full of his brothers old amiga stuff, anyway I cant sleep so ive started routing through it, most of it looks like crap, few descent mice etc and a Vidi Amiga which I can find out nothing about online:

I have a couple of standard Vidi Amiga 24RTs and aside from the black casing and label they look the same, although unlike any other Vidi Amiga I have I cannot open this unit, the two halves of the casing appear to be bonded togeather.
There is also a small label on the underside (about half the leangth of a floppy disk label) I assume this had something hand written on it but everything has been rubbed away.
I have tried this on my A1200 with the power supply from another Vidi and it does not seem to work with any of my existing VidiAmiga 12 or 24 software.
I have no box/manuals/disks for this unit

anyone know anything about this?

I have to admit, that first time I see this product. Are you sure it's not a non-working prototype of some sorts, never saw the light of day?

There is info available about this on Amiga Resource here http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/vidi24.
The software .adf is also there.

Maybe you have to inspect the pics thoroughly.

Just flick through the menu's, there's various iterations listed. If it's not there it must be a prototype!

It's not recognised by any editions of the software, I want to open it but it appears to be a sealed unit and I'm a bit worried about damaging the casing.

try Vidi-AmigaRT+_v3.0.dms - in the zone.
orig filename on those scene images:
VIDI24PR.DMS P 523523 02-09-97 VIDI 24 RT SOFTWARE CONTROL
different size of the tool and v3.0 vs v1.10 (resource.cx)

I had a Vidi Amiga 12 myself back in the day and it wasn't half bad. When I went looking, I was quite amazed to find an interesting webpage dedicated to Vidi Amiga digitisers here:

http://www.stone-oakvalley-studios.c...oard_index.php (main page)

http://www.stone-oakvalley-studios.c...26082014004817 (Vidi Amiga 24RT)

If you dig through the different entries you can unearth a few nice goodies, including different driver versions and a latter release of the manual in PDF.

http://www.stone-oakvalley-studios.c...iser_v2.00.pdf (Vidi Amiga RT Software Version 2.00+ manual)

http://www.stone-oakvalley-studios.c...gart_v1.02.zip (Vidi Amiga RT V1.02 software driver)

http://www.stone-oakvalley-studios.c...gart_v1.10.zip (Vidi Amiga RT V1.10 software driver)

Yep, and here's a link to the Vidi Amiga RT+ V3.20 software driver. Both contain a Vidi Amiga RT2 config file, so hopefully your model is supported (fingers crossed!).

http://www.stone-oakvalley-studios.c...igart_v3.2.zip

There's even a hacked version of the V3.20 software for SECAM users!

any news? does anything work now?
if so, you may capture some video with vidi, while you do some experiments with it.

I've had no luck with it at all sadly

I'm wondering now if Phantom was correct about it being a non-working prototype or perhaps it's simply broken.

not so good. :/

do you found a working power supply for it? those from your other vidi devices?
there are some big caps on the device, maybe they are rotten and need to be replaced.

I would try to open it. take some highres images, so we can look for some odd parts on the board.

I have a couple of other Vidis so was using a power supply from a 24.

It looks like I'm going to have to cut it open as the black casing is completely sealed.

I could not find an image from to buttom side, so i was not sure about existing screws.
maybe some research on save opening of such glued things we should do first.

there is no visible slit/gap on the case?

Its two halves but they seem to be bonded together with something, I may hand this over to a friend to open up as I have very shaky hands.

Bummer that it didn't work with the newer drivers! Yep, a peak at the insides is the next logical step. Good luck to you and your mate Mick in carefully cracking it open!
