Amiga 3000 accelerator cooling

Hey guys. I was looking at ways to cool the 68060 card in my A3000 - as you know there is not alot of clearance or access to under the floppy drive bays.

I thought about just putting a heatsink on the 68060 - it's a rev 1 060 and runs pretty hot actually. But I wanted something more - something to move the air around.

I had this fan from an ASUS motherboard lying around so I first tried to put it directly on top of the 060 with hot glue...but it wouldn't stick to the ceramic top of the 060! So I ended up gluing it to the underside of the floppy drive bays. Seems to work pretty well. It moves air in a counter-clockwise direction. I've felt the top of the 060 chip and now it is barely warm to the touch...before adding this fan it was HOT for sure.

I am powering the fan from the 12v fan header on the AA3000+ board.

What else has anyone done to improve cooling on their A3000's?

Darren

Because i would never drill a hole in the carrier i put this on it my 040/40 CS MKII:

I think i can reduce it to 5 volts, with 12 volt it is still a bit too loud.

Btw, very nice machine!

Thanks. Yes that fan looks a bit similar to mine. Mine is just hot-glued to the metal carrier/chassis - there is no damage done (I wouldn't drill either!). The hot glue easily can come off. My particular fan is very quiet, you almost can't hear it, and the 060 is cool now. It's probably cooling the ram too - which is running at 60ns. Overall I am pretty happy with my solution and feel better about the AA3000 and the MK3 keeping cool
