WHDLoad - Exception "Privilege Violation" Error

I hope that this is the right section to post this in.

I am running WHDLoad 16.8 (Which I have registered for) and I keep running into this error or a similar error while trying to play WHDLoad games:

Exception "Privilege Violation" ($20)
at $7F3F8F6 (ExpMem $8F6) occured.

Quit Restart Make CoreDump

What does this error mean? And how can I stop this error from happening?

I was playing Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (The Graphic Adventure) when I got this error, but I also get this error or similar when playing all other WHDLoad games too. I have tried both Amiga SYS 4 and Classic Workbench setups and have the same problem. I am running WinUAE 1.5.3. (I also got this error under WinUAE 1.5.2 and WinUAE 1.5.1 too).

I found that this used to happen when I used configs which were a bit... 'souped up'.

I have a standard, 'safe' configuration for testing whdload games which is pretty much an A1200 with a bit more RAM, rather than with JIT and all the extra settings and I very, very rarely received the same error with this config.

crash when it wants too actually.

Never had any problems with Fate of Atlantis in WinUAE. I played through the German version 2 years ago. I didn't tried the English & French versions yet.

I tried running the game in a plain Winuae setup, with plain Workbench 3.1 and basic 1200 settings and I didn't run into any problems. But I thought that the purpose of WHDLoad was to run games on 'souped up' systems? What's the point of WHDLoad if it dosen't run on 'souped up' systems without crashing? Unless there is a setting or something that I'm missing that will make the games run good on a 'souped up' system?

WHDLoad was written for original Amiga computers, not for emulators. And JIT boost the speed 5-10 times, compared to a real machine. This causes a lot of glitches and errors in WinUAE, especially combined with WHDLoad.

If I turn off JIT will it run better in WINUAE?

Yep, the most games runs more stable then. Turn the JIT on if you want to do other Amiga stuff than playing old games.

OK. I also read that "turning off the cache" will help to. How do I do that?

You want to set "nocache" in the game's icon's tooltypes.
