Advantages of using FS-UAE?

Hi Frode,

I confess I never tried FS-UAE, since I thought it was for Linux only and I didn't know which benefits the Windows version has over WinUae.

I took a walk on the website and see that it's more focused on games and on interface simplicity/usability.
Could you kindly explain which advantages a typical WinUAE user has by "switching" to FS-UAE?

Thank you very much ,
Massimo

@supamax: From user point of view, here is what I see as benefits:

FS-UAE Launcher + Online Game database. Get kickstart + gamedisks, and just do the scan. Everything set up automatically.

What you said - simplicity

Also that multiplatform thing too

Some points why I changed and what's so nice about FS-UAE and its launcher can be found in this thread: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=68129

Basically what Goingdown said about the launcher is the main advantage

What the others have said

And some other things to keep in mind:
- It's different, that can be good or bad depending on requirements and taste
- it could perform better (or worse) than WinUAE on some systems since other graphics/audio/input systems are used.

I suggest you try it if you're curious!

To be honest, the development version at http://fengestad.no/fs-uae/download-devel is better than the latest stable one. There'll soon be a new stable version based on the development series.

Maybe I shouldn't spoil too much... but...
Code:
Battle Isle
Bionic Commando
Black Viper
Blood Money
Cedric and the Lost Sceptre
Hot Rod
Leisure Suit Larry
Leisure Suit Larry 2
Licence to Kill
Live and Let Die
The Lion King
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat II
Turbo Cup
The Untouchables
Volfied
Those are the games that have been added tonight to the online database
(you can see that for yourself easily here: http://oagd.net/reports/latest-additions)
That means that if you are connected to the database via FS Launcher you'll have those games available in your launcher automatically after a refresh. During the next day(s) more info and pictures will show up plus you'll see which version people voted as 'Ok'. Other things like configuration fixes will also be in the database by tomorrow. So... I really hope you give it a try

P.S.: There are 574 non-CD games available via the database by now... and counting

Hi, question about this as I have removed TOSEC (Way to messy and disorganised for my liking) from my computer and only use GameBase + DemoBase and if I need an alternative crack/version of a game I get it from the TOSEC section on the EAB server.

I have been creating manual configurations/covers/screenshots for my favourite games and was curious about the online database system in FS-UAE.

However looking at the link TCD posted it seems that only IPF's and TOSEC releases are supported....

Are there any plans to support GameBase at some point?

Gamebase is already 'supported' (or at least it should be) Basically the versions from Gamebase should show up as 'variants' in the database already (since it based on checksums, not disk names). xpect also uses the Gamebase set and he has most of the entries. If the Gamebase variant doesn't show up, Frode can easily add them Please leave a comment on the game for which the Gamebase variant doesn't show up.

Yep, i use the Gamebase Amiga set too. Most entries are there. I'm too lazy to compare what's missing (ADF cracks, IPF) since i'm more interested in WHDLoad.

I would point at this point that in the database NOT exist GAMES. Only configurations for games that you own. Just to prevent misunderstandings.

Hi, I have the latest GameBase set so I assume the configurations would scan/locate the relevant .adf via it's checksum?

Advantages of using FSUAE? Because it is easily the far most versatile experience on this solar system for Amiga emulation on OSX and many other host systems. The project is indeed very fast paced and always open for improvements in usability. Finally it brings to you the clean structure and power of the mighty 68k processors (already designed 32Bit from the very beginning).

FS UAE fanboy. ;-)

Online play?? Now I'm more interested but in the past online play via winuae packs was painfully laggy, is this actually something that plays smoothly online now?

I've played The Chaos Engine a few days ago with Frode. It was pretty smooth without noticeable lags, and i don't have a really fast internet connection (DSL 2000).

Depends on your ping between your computers, but generally speaking it works well. I'm more keen to test with UK players, as pings generally should be better!
