Cool Apidya 2

Apidya 2 doesn't exist.

I think the confusion has come from the Apidya titlescreen. If you look, it says:

Apidya: xxx II

where xxx are some Japanese characters.

Now, I don't know what the Japanese characters mean, but this suggests to me that Apidya is a 'sequel' to something (probably some obscure Kaiko game), so it is xxx 2.

However, someone who doesn't know much has probably seen this and thought that it read merely 'Apidya 2' and named an ADF 'Apidya 2' erroneously. Then, a rumour got spread round that there was a real Apidya 2.

This is my explanation - I've never heard of a sequel to Apidya, but I could be wrong. Is it possible that an AGA sequel was in the works, but wasn't released?

Removed Cody's double barrel screenshot.
It will be included in the upcoming AGD

Could the Amiga version of Apidya be sequel to a C 64, speccy or other game?? Like Final Fantasy 7on the Playstation is a sequel to Super Famicom games, which were in turn sequels to NES games? Am I confusing you guys? :kill

Andreas, the title screen clearly says "Apidya II"... Perhaps there definitely is no Apidya 1 I'd like to knbow this, it's a thing that always puzzled me and I'd like to contact teh creators for asking them the question...

HOLD ON, I think a Shmups visitor gave me the contacts to the guy who programmed Apidya... I gotta check, fingers crossed...

It all started some months ago with a couple of Amiga disks I bought from a guy who was giving tons of disks away.

The intro loaded fine ( I think an Elite crack) but then the game hung with a "serious disk error" on my Amiga1200 without displaying any screen/logo; all fucked up.

I'm almost sure the intro says the crack was dated '94 or later. If my memory serves well Apidya was released in 92.
Weird, isn't it ?

As soon as I can I'll check the crack intro out and report back on Thursday.

Many thanks.

Cool Apidya

Well Apidya was first released in 1992 as full price by Play Byte and then later in 1994 it was re-released by Team 17 as a budget title.

So, I suggest that your 1994 crack is of the budget version.

Cool Apidya

If you go to http://www.nemmelheim.de/kaiko/index2.html
you will find a website about the developers of Apidya - Kaiko.

They were a bunch of German guys who did Japanese style games.

In an interview with them:

T.R.Schmidt:
Is it true, that Apidya had a "II" in its name, because there was a Japanese game with the same name?

Chris Huelsbeck:
No, this was a gag to provide for some excitement....

As I recall, Venus the Flytrap was also a horizontlly scrolling insect thingy shooter. I just checked on ExoticA and the two games do not appear to have anything in common apart from that Apidya was released 1 year later than Venus. What makes me remember the correlation is that when I had Venus the Flytrap, I really liked it, and saw a preview/review of Apidya in a magazine (can't remember which now, maybe a newer C+VG or and Amiga dedicated magazine), anyway, the review said that Apidya was to be the sequel to Venus, which made me very happy, even tho I never got a copy of Apidya untill years later Perhaps someone has a magazine with that review.

Arrow Chrome is a hidden game in Venus the Flytrap

Venus the Flytrap is programmed by the same British team who also brought us Switchblade I & II and Zool I & 2. Apidya is programmed by Kaiko in Germany. The games have nothing in common apart from that they are horizontal scrolling and have an insect as a main character.

In the titlescreen of Venus the Flytrap type in CHROME and you get a hidden game called Chrome. It is sort of wheel which you must guide through platform invested landscapes.

Cool Switchblade 2

I think Chrome appears in Switchblade 2, not Venus.

Big grin Cody, you're right..

Cody,
I just have checked Ami Cheats..
You are right. Chrome can be found in Switchblade 2, not Venus the Flytrap.

Cool Chrome

Chrome is quite similar to Venus in many respects, so perhaps it was an intended follow-up that was dropped. I seem to recall reading that it was too...
