Wink Question, about SD2IDE interfaces, (not CF kk ;) )

Heya,
After reading the pages in this section about using CF-to-IDE devices, on you Amiga, (you converted me People , I blame Zetro.), I went to that garage sale site on the web (Ebay) , and ordered me one. (yay).

While looking I also found a SD-to-IDE converter as well. since it was sooo cheap, now the question, will it actually work on the amiga? since it seems to be the same logic as the CF-to-IDE, I am taking the assumption that it will.
Ebay linkage for it! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....TODAY.m238.lVI

If anyone has any knowledge about this let me know .

Hopefully this stops me having to either lug my 10g HD, or SCSI-Zip drive around.

Oh, almost forgot, I have an A1200 with a blizzard MKIV 030/50+scsi. (with a 4 way IDE adapter on the way, atm I have a 44 to 40 pin converter cable. (Drives are powered by the ATX power Supply, whichI converted to work with my 1200. I used a broken a500 one for the connecter, found out why it was broken when I made the conversion tho..
It would of been way easy to fix, but I had 2 of them, the other one still works.
Which is pretty good for a 20 year old HD Item, came with my red power light 500.. which is dead tho... (Don't have it anymore either..) )

Laters, Vairn.

yes, it works. I got exactly the same adapter and got it working after fiddling with max transfer vs values. Mind you, it looks like working even if you have wrong max transfer values, but certain files can get corrupted after writing. so prepare to do a brief testing.

also, my only gripe, it doesn't seem to have master/slave jumper, and I couldn't get a cdrom working on the same bus.

I'll buy one when these SD-TO-IDE adapters will be available with 44 pin interface, so that it will be possible to connect them directly to A1200 without IDE and POWER converter cables. At the moment I can't find them.

Been keeping an eye on these: Smaller hole to cut in the plastic

Hmm, soon time to put hand in pocket (again). Maybe one of my own Amiga projects will actually get finished one of these days.

@Coze: Out of interest - what max transfer did you find reliable?
Thanks.

Btw, CF-IDE and SD-IDE are totally different in the way they work. The only common thing is that they have an IDE interface in one end and support IDE commands. :-)

@Jope:
Haha, The IDE interface was my common logic...

@Coze:
As Charlie asked, what was the MaxTransfer setting you found worked the best? 0x1fe000, or something else?, and what size SD card ya got?

it was something quite low, like 0x00FFF I didn't play much with it and just wanted to be on the safe side ... But as far as I can remember, ox1fe000 gave me problems. hmm I need to fire up my 1200 setup to see what it was let me a second ... The card is 1gb.

ok, I just fired it up. It's 0x00FFF indeed. but I noticed something strange, partition is FFS. I usually use SFS, I wonder if it was SFS giving me problems so I switched to FFS ? it's been a while, I can't really remember atm. I'ld like to switch to 0x1fe000 one more time and see, but this setup doesn't have a keyboard at the moment.

The regular IDE maxtransfer is 0x1fe00 .. only two zeros in the end. Try that and see if your files get corrupted?

Check out Addonics, unlike the cheap and cheerful adapters found on ebay these include both 40 and 44 pin connectors, support SDHC cards and have master/slave jumpers.

aha, with two zeros at the end ? that makes three zeros at the beginning, 0x0001fe00. And, yes, it seems to be working right with this value.

Thanks for the replies:

One of my considerations for SD / CF is I'd have to run such an interface to the outside or what's the point..?

I'm thinking SD simply because it's smaller - more discrete, and the A1200 concerned is seriously running out of appropriate places to cut new holes.

Hmmm. Addonics, eh? Looks intersting...
...and that rather large PCB looks like it could stand some serious trimming courtesy of Messier Dremel.

This is not what I exactly want, but it looks interesting... Thanks.

Thanks OddbOd.
Most interesting

So 44pin to SD does exist...

...a bit too bulky for my needs, does anyone know of a 'plain' 44pin to CD?
Master / slave jumper would be nice, but no 44pin interface etc taking up room.

Thanks.
