50hz emulation on Windows 8.1 tablet

This is probably a long shot asking here, but has anyone gotten WinUAE to work at 50hz on a Windows 8.1 tablet? I have one running at 1.8GHZ quad core, which is powerful enough to run WinUAE well, and it has an Intel HD GPU. Unfortunately, development of Powerstrip seems to have stopped, and nothing seems to work to force a 50hz refresh rate.

I'm interested in running the internal screen at 50hz.

I have no clue if it works on a tablet but for PC I used cru to force 50hz.

Unfortunately, I have tried CRU already. Doesn't seem to work for me.

Yeah it seems to be a problem. My tablet does 56Hz only apparently, does yours do 60?
I would guess that the problem isn't the Intel HD chipset but the display in use on the tablet that limits it to a certain frequency.

Yes, mine does 60hz and nothing else. I haven't tried the microHDMI connection to my TV, because I have a desktop PC for that purpose.

I think that if you connect an external display this can be circumvented. I also never tried because I don't have the cable but I was meaning to buy one soon!

In any case, I don't find Vsync to be that important for me so the issue doesn't bother me much. i'm pretty happy that I can use WinUAE on the tablet at all, I just wish there were some extra facilities regarding touch screen input.

Yeah, 60hz is still better than anything else would be. I would need 50hz for games with smooth scrolling and if there is no NTSC version available. A PAL version may run in NTSC mode, but I find the music played at a faster rate annoying.

Another machine that benefits from a 50hz screen is the C64. For others, 60hz is just fine.

I have a MicroHDMI cable somewhere, I may try it tomorrow.

I just tried the microHDMI cable. 50hz mode is supported when connected to my PAL-capable Samsung TV.

I'm pretty sure at least the tablet's bios could be patched to allow driving the internal LCD at 50hz, but I don't know how to do it and most people aren't interested enough to do such patches...Still, this tablet is one dandy emulation-machine, I intend to get a bluetooth "gamepad" extension for it as well!

You said you tried one of those tools to create your own resolution modes, right?

I tried all tools that I know of. DTD Calculator didn't run because of a .net framework 3.5 error (which doesn't seem to install on this tablet, but I did try editing DTD1 in the registry.

None of them actually added any custom resolutions to be selectable in Windows. If I was able to at least add a custom resolution to the registry that results in a black screen, that would convince me. But adding any custom resolutions seem to be blocked either in the driver or the bios itself. I have a single core netbook that runs at 60hz with earlier firmware, 64-66hz with updated firmware, but to force a custom refresh rate in software does not seem possible with that one...

Probably not much help, but apparently the Linux Intel graphics driver does support overriding the display EDID data. That should allow you to force 50Hz. Maybe installing Linux so you can dual-boot could be a solution. Bit of a learning curve if you haven't used it before of course...
