http://www.girv.net
After 5 (or more?) years without an overhaul, I've finally put a new version of my homepage online. The big switch was flipped at midnight on the day of my birthday! You think I planned that, don't you?
girv dot net: http://www.girv.net FYI there is/was a thread in the Off Topic forum where some folk have been going over a preview version that was made available last week: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=323583 Enjoy! |

Look at this! Another update and less than five years in the making!
Well OK, this time its just some minor graphical and layout tweakage and not a complete do-over like before. The only thing worth posting about in fact is that I've added a blog section now as well. Enjoy! |

jsdaleks online
I've uploaded an old version of Daleks that I made in 1999 using Javascript. It's been bashed into shape to work in modern Firefox at least. Give it a whirl!
Animation doesn't work (CPU speed dependent loops, I oughta know better!) and there's no persistent high score table. It's a lot of work to fix those problems, unfortunately But it mostly works Play Daleks online! [ blog entry with more details ] |

ta for Daleks girv. It nearly works on my Opera based archos 605. I can see the dalek but not the dr... the move buttons seem to work...
Good fun on firefox though! |

Thanks for the heads up, I'll see if I can get it working properly in Opera without too much effort.
Back in the day it worked on everything, including AWeb ! Netscape 4(ish) choked & crashed out if the arena was made bigger than 11x11 I may do a modern version using some of the fancy schmancy Javascript frameworks that are around today, which would make for a more compatible version. But don't hold your breath |

Thanks girv, that's really a great site with some very entertaining memories of your personal computer history and experiences. Sorry to hear that all your VIC20 tapes were lost. I remember reusing some of my first Amiga 3,5'' disk since I wanted to save the money. So some of my self written games, notes etc. are lost forever too. It's always a pity, if you look back at the mistakes one has made in the past :-(

@microslave: thanks for your kind words about the site
Like I say on those pages, I only wish I could go back and slap some sense into my younger self I can't believe I ever thought it was a good idea to record over those VIC-20 tapes I'd spent all that time making To make matters worse, I can't find the stuff I recorded over them with either ! It's possible I transferred the contents to disc when I got the 3" drive for the Amstrad CPC, but I can't find that disc (if it exists). My brother had a habit of "borrowing" my discs and using them for his own stuff, so that's one possible explanation I guess it's worth one more search of my parents' attic |
