my a1200 finally finished?
Ive been looking to "slim down" my amiga hardware into a single unit for some time now, even going as far as getting rid of the remnants of my old A1200T setup.
however, far-cry from "giving up" on my hardware in favour oof emualtion (nice as emualtion is) , ive gone crazy, and maxxed out what i could from what i had. Ive spent the last couple of weeks picking up bits from ebay and stuff, doing what little modificatiosn are within my limited expertise, and finally the fliping mofo is finished, and crammed into the case. we have; A1200, Kickstart 3.1, with Blizzard 030/50 + SCSI IV interface, 24 meg of fast-ram, 4xEIDE'99 buffered interface, CF-Card reader for HD (Classic WB and KGWHD packs installed), Internally fitted Laptop CD drive, with independent audio output, 2xPSX->CD32-pad/Mouse emualtion adaptors and custom LEDs for a bit of fun. phew! here's the pics; The unit; The heart of the Tardis... i mean A1200... That tight squeeze! Those pretty ports (CF card, audios, CD, PSX pad adaptors, SCSI. some LED action (green HD/CD not lit! blue caps lock not shown!) and Classic Workbench in all its glory.... (dunno where it got that date from... it's a day behind and i thought the battery was fudged!) im pretty chuffed with it, even if the CD isnt as close as i'd like(damn that blizzard!)... theres a lot of room used in there, so i wasnt that surprised. Its secure, and no one will be eyening up the back anyway, so i'm content enough! i know some hardware geeks like Zetr0 always like a look so that's why im posting... not just to show off... honest! |

my friend, its about time you got to grips with this little beastie. It look fantastic. I like the red sporting colour of the rom, real flashy! also I am quite intrigued as to the MID mounting of the ROM, one of the trickier places to mount it with good strength. I love the rear mounting CF card as HDD to. great for that WinUAE need I looks great, some fine work indeed |

lol, the red tape was purely for safety, not sporting design!
i very nearly had a potentally nasty (amiga killing!) accident with a bit of insulation missing, so i quickly got to sealing almost all of it behind tape / cardboard (underneath) - this also helps with the mounting in the centre, as it makes the whole cd unit quite "thick"... the blizzard doest exactly give it room to move and like the CF-adaptor, only a small bit of wood is needed to really secure it, although i wouldnbe be chucking it about or anything! had it not been for the 4xEIDE adaptor getting in the way, and the fact i want to keep my two sets of audio-ports close, i proabbyl would have gone for the more standard "back left" cd-rom approach.... ah well! atm, its primarily a SWOS-9697 machine... which is a bit of a waste of its potential i will admit! hey, i had to test it with something! |

I dont know about a waste, more like a temple to the great game of Sensi I have seen a lot of A1200 mods go horrendously wrong but this one I am glad to say is done very well |

however my power LED was taken from a defunct A500, ad my short hunt in Maplins didnt find me a modern replacement like tha Amiga ones! please let me know if you do find any though as i'd love to do the same! Quote:
I cant really see the CD being thrashed enough to get that hot tbh, but time will tell! cheers for the kudos guys. nice to see my humble efforts applauded rather than mocked for a change! |

Great A1200
I really must pull my finger out & finish my A1200 projects. More ideas to incorporate - damn you! On the LED front, I don't know of a source of alternate-coloured Amiga-type ones. (AFAIA: C= had their own manufacturing facilities lost when they went bust) What you can do is the following: -Bright, small, standard LED of the correct voltage & desired colour. -Chop the top off the C= LED with a very sharp craft knife. (this will kill it!) -Gently sculpt the remains of the C= LED base to act as a cap for the new one. (drill bit the size of new LED & v. steady hand can speed this up!) -Keep fiddling + jiggling until it lights the way you want when fitted in the case. (internal surface needs a somewhat 'frosted' appearance to help 'spread the light') -Make all permanent with superglue / silicone sealant. (NOT applied between the two!!!) Honestly - practice your technique with a bit of perspex before you bugger things up! Last edited by Charlie; 18 November 2007 at 17:22. |

Looks cool! Considered moving to a A500 case? You'd have a bit more room to play with
Or i double dare you to put it all in an A600 case! |

I thought about getting some thin plexiglas or other transparent plastic and just drill two holes with 2 LEDs in each of the lights . example 2 x led hdd etc i will work on it and post pics if i get it done nicely..

The broken one that i stripped the LED from unfortunately has a shattered case |

You can order bar type LED's from RS that may fit.
Alternatively find the colour you want in normal LED's and put some frosted covers inside the case but covering the LED holes. |
