Internal floppy drive on external port

Hi.

Is it possible to connect an internal floppy drive to the external floppy port?

I need the internal controller for HxC and want a floppy drive still just in case.

Thanks

Volt.

Yes, but it needs some latches to work properly. Try to find an external case to put it into (one with a dead drive)

Will see if I can find one, thanks

BTW do external floppy drives for the amiga front piece have same dimensions as fronts of PC floppy drives?

Yes.

And note that it is sometimes possible to buy a complete and working interface which has been pulled from an external Amiga floppy drive unit with a non-working drive mechanism.

These are sold on eBay by the UK seller Airey36, usually as floppy drive interfaces for Amiga tower projects.

I have bought a few of them from him for my own use.

Here is a link to his eBay World page:
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/airey36&ss...84.m1543.l2533

He's not listing an Amiga external floppy drive interface ATM, but I'm sure he will have some in his huge stockpile of bits.

He always responds to eBay messages quickly, so you could contact him by that method to ask if he has one available.

Which disk drive should I use for the external interface? Chris at amigakit think their tower drives won't work.

Thanks

If you have a tower drive, then give it a try.

The only problem I can see with that is that a tower drive could be configured as either DS0 or DS1. If it's DS0, then it will work, but if it's DS1, then it will need to be jumpered (if possible) to DS0 instead. If that's not possible, then the same thing can be achieved with a twist in the ribbon cable instead.

Nothing will come to any harm if it's the wrong confuguration to start with.

I have some old PC disk drives that's all but if the tower disk drives from amigakit was working I would have bought one of those.

Maybe I should mod one of the old PC disk drives instead.

Is it easy to mod those drives to work on the external interface?

It depends on which make and model of drive you wish to convert. Have a look at this thread for some compatible drive types:

Modifying PC floppy drives for Amiga use.

Once the drive has been modified for Amiga use, it can be connected to either the internal port or fitted inside an external drive unit.

The disk drive I have is the same as the first one in the post from Prowlers link but the print layout is different so I'm very stuck

Could anyone tell me what to do on this board to get it to work?

It's me who has made the wire from pin 2 but not sure if it's the right thing to do though.

Thanks!

Volt.

I found a Samsung Floppy Drive to mod instead and it worked. Whohooo
