Operation Wolf vs Thunderbolt - Which is Best?

Hi everyone and welcome to the February edition of "Which is Best?".

This month I'm going to place the first 2 classic Operation Wolf games against each other,...Wolf vs Thunderbolt (many versions in this video shown) which do you think is the better game out of these two,...Wolf or Thunderbolt?! (not version),...only your votes will determine that :-D

Operation Wolf 3 & 4 (Tiger) will not be included as they look and feel very different from the first 2 games.

I remember the arcade version of Operation Thunderbolt and its excellent intro. Pity it wasn't used in the Amiga version.

Wow, that framerate is terrible. Even the Spectrum version is far more playable.

Wolf gets my vote, but the Speccy version beats all the others hands down. For both games, for that matter.

Still a great conversion though by Ocean, just imagine if U.S.Gold had converted it

I'd say Thunderbolt is definitely the better game.

Definitely disagree with you about the Amiga conversion though. I'm with Dunny, the Spectrum conversions of both games are the best.

The fact that the Spectrum version runs far smoother and faster shows just how poor the Amiga version was. Absolute garbage.

I am going to go with Operation Thunderbolt. The fact that it has a 3D aspect to it makes it seem more "real", like you're actually shooting at stuff. Too bad all the home computer ports didn't even come close to the arcade version.

Operation Wolf was the reason why I wanted a disk drive for my C64, so fond memories there. For Amiga it would be Operation Thunderbolt for its lush arcade ported gfx. Still one of the best looking Amiga games out there.

I would not touch either game these days, though.

I always loved Operation Wolf... In the arcade. The Amiga version looks the part, but using a mouse does make it a bit less fun to me. I did play Operation Thunderbolt as well and somehow don't like it as much. It's more impressive technically, but it didn't make as much of an impact on me.

At any rate, my vote goes to Operation Wolf.

Wolf - I actually love the arcade intro too on this, strapping the grenades, etc. Plus bikini clad girls in the middle of a war zone - what is not to like?

It always amazes me, how good Spectrum coders were, and what they achieved with that ghetto machine.
And it amazes me as well, how bad most early Amiga coders were, and how they were not able to get anything from that crazy good hardware..

On the topic of this thread (why post a video with different versions then, if you don't want people to talk about them?), I'd prefer Operation Wolf. that pseudo 3D in the other game looks weird...

I am misguided by nostalgia: this game was shown to me in the early days and I was blown away! Now looking at it and confirming the FPS rate was accurate I can say indeed Wolf is better than Thunderbolt but the speccy version is much better.
