How great was Sonix? Is there such a program today?

I know next to nothing about music, but I used Aegis Sonix an awful lot as a teenager. It was extremely easy to use and create a few simple scores (well, little more than jingles in my case).

My question is, is there a modern software these days that is as simple to use as Sonix was? One that you can simply select an instrument, drag and drop notes on the staff and use the computer keyboard to play? Everything I've tried seemed too complicated for me.

well you should try Garage Band for iPad. Some say it's Sonix's grandson.
It's like having recording studio on the go, lets you play virtual instruments, you could also plug in real keyboard (like korg nano) or even guitar.
Everything's easy thanks to intuitive interface.

In a few minutes of using you'd be churning out Lady Gaga like music

You could try DMCS, it is similar. I always preferred Sonix though.

I quite liked Sonix except for one thing - I can't read music. I always found that, due to the musical staff interface, that was a bit of a barrier. Well, that and my general lack of musical creativity...

Thanks, where can I find more information on it? Is it a PC program?
