Music goes out of pitch every few mins for a couple of seconds

For example if I run any of these games in attract mode, I experience this.

Turrican 2
Suburban Commando
Uridium 2

Probably more, but those games always do it.

I'm running FRAPS and the frame rate seems to stay constant, just seems to affect music. It slows down and goes out of pitch for a couple of seconds, then resumes as it should.

Any idea why this would happen?

Have you tried to change the 'Sound Buffer Size' on the sound panel?

I will try that now, it was set to 4 - changed it to 7.

Thanks

Well that seems to have solved the problem, but has introduced a new problem - a 3 second delay before sounds are heard.

Try it with 5 then. If that doesn't fix the problem, enable 'Create log file' on the miscellaneous panel and attach both 'winuaebootlog.txt' and 'winuaelog.txt' for Toni here.

I have checked the create log box, but can't seem to find the log file!

Yes with vsync @ 50hz

Here are my config files

WHDLoad.uae (main config)
Arcade.uae (host config)
http:///dl/112183030/0013...sktop.rar.html

XP x86, 8800 GTX, core2duo 2.4ghz, Realtek onboard HD Audio, 2gb ram

Do you need any more info Toni?

Are you really sure refresh rate really is 50Hz?

Do you get correct (higher pitch but without constant pitch changes) if you use 60Hz? What does SND% on screen led show? It should stay stable (between-30% to 30% is usually good)

I have tweaked my 1280x1024 res with power strip to 50.329hz
and sync to this with winuae. I have confirmed this with FRAPS - rock solid 50.

@ 60hz vsync the music is playing back much faster with higher pitch, it doesn't seem to slow down from this playback speed, remaining constant

I have enabled the OSD, I assume I'm looking at the first display of the OSD here.
The OSD changes rapidly for me, as far as I can see its within the +-30 range.

Can you adjust refresh rate slightly? (closer to 50.00Hz) Vsync may not be able to keep sound sync properly if difference is too large.

Vsync support needs improvements but it is difficult to test without annoying display setup changes.. I am too lazy because I have secondary true 120Hz "3D" LCD monitor which accepts 100Hz (=2x50Hz) for perfectly smooth PAL vsync modes.

Thats the closest I can get to 50hz without going below 50 (or multiples of 50) in any resolution that offers 1:1 PAL pixel mapping (multiples of 320x256).

I have kept everything the same and just disabled Vsync (just fullscreen instead of fullscreen+vsync) and the music seems to be playing perfectly, with the obvious side effect of screen tearing.

Try slightly less than 50Hz rate, it might work better. Or worse

After tweaking around with powerstrip for a whille I have managed to get it down to 50.022hz and it still slurs the audio, going just below to 49.997hz has the same effect. How close to 50hz must it be, exactly 50.000hz?

What graphics card/driver/os are you using for 50hz Toni?

In older WinUAE versions you could improve such problems (e.g. recording a video) by using the Null filter.

SOLVED!

Increase the priority to "above normal" has done the trick!

Perfect audio and video sync, no slurring or dropouts of any description

Very Happy!

Thanks guys
