I doubt that would be the reason, the derived code is unlikely to be protected by the original owner's copyright so the coders are likely just wary of violating their previous employer's copyright rather than Midway's (now Warner Bros actually).

Also, when data is lacking, always choose the simplest explanation.

You may be right but how would we know without a source?

@DamienD: MK 1 was okay on the amiga. MK II was too much for the machine I admit. Same for me. Either arcade or Snes are good. The DS ultra is good (MKIII), but I never was able to perform one single fatality, even with the keys in from of me.

@ransom1122: okay you have a MKII arcade cabinet. No wonder you're finding it easier than us... That's a fine cabinet to own.

Yeah running an overclocked Pie 3. Had the Cab for years. Just recently updated to LED buttons, and added extra buttons. Now waiting for a couple of Red Mag Stick Plus joysticks, and changing the marquee to a proper MKII one and its all done

@lordofchaos
You're not getting old.
MK2 is pretty hard game, especially for a newcomers. I'd say that "very easy" settings can be considered as hard, or at least medium.
But back in the day, they didn't spoiled kids with the games that you can win so easily, yet when I first finished MK2, even I spent almost all 30 coins, it was extremely rewarding feeling.
Damn, that Kintaro was a nightmare (Shao Kahn was much easier for me).
And some people here mention Baraka... man, I am still scared of him.

Few tips I can give, that may help you:
- Try combining various punches. If you managed to strike with uppercut, it will not allow you to strike him again like that, so try leg, then special, then maybe again uppercut.
- learn to do quickly: down-backward fire. It's a cool move, very handy when you're close to opponent, and many players is not using it.
- Try not only use blocks, but for some opponents special moves (Liu Kang flying kick (or bicucle), or Milenas kiks), use block, then fast uppercut.... lots of fun
