Comprehensible manual for Input settings

Dear

Toni,

I had to create some custom input settings for AB3DII but couldn't find a complete explanation of all parts of the input settings window and how they correlate to the game ports settings window. After lots of trial and error (and frustration) I got it working, but still I (and other people for sure) would like to know what all of the settings/dropdowns mean.

BTW: Why is the "official WinUAE documentation" only available on VWare ( https://www.vware.at/projects/winuae/ ) and not linked on your site? It cleared a few things up for me regarding the input settings. Maybe just enhance this documentation. Thanks again in advance!

Completely agree. There are many parts of this page I don't understand.
What is configuration #1,2,3 & game ports panel?
Why are some input targets editable and others not?
Why do some lines let me set autofire, but then not remember the setting?
What does the 1-8 dropdown do (as Michael asked)
What does swap 1 <> 2 do?
