Vampire 1200
I have some questions regarding this future accalerator card.
-Will it have SATA or ATA controller? -AGA++ Will have RTG system bulid in so it will work under picasso96 or something else? also it will provide any patch for graphics.library ? -this 16bit sound chip will have Paula audio passthrough so we can put oly HDMI to our tv and thats all? Will it have ahi driver ? Mpeg decoding will be in software or hardware ? -what kind of software or patches will be useless for vampire 1200? Will be provided any list ? -If we have some programs optimised for 060 (visualprefs, some libs, games) it will work or we need to switch for 020 versions? Will be any speed difference in that situation ? thanks |

K, i think the first question should be, "is there going to be an A1200 FPGA board"
Although not qualified to answer this question, i think there will be one developed as soon as the a500/a2000 and a600 are released and in the wild. The specs for it will be greater than any other Accelerator board ever released and the A1200 will be on par with the Athlon family of chips and more than twice the speed of a 68060. The FPGA and Apollo core has the capability to run a lot of 68K instructions in parallel on at least 3 different pipes so this will obviously speed up the operation. Windows will open instantly, Directories will refresh and draw in a fraction of a second. The time has never been better to invest in an Amiga (of all breeds) |

CybergraphX 3 is what Aros 68k uses and I have the task of writing Aros drivers for the AGA++ core.

-Will it have SATA or ATA controller?
It will have at least a SD connector... -AGA++ Will have RTG system bulid in so it will work under picasso96 The SAGA will be capable to open a deeper screen, with 10, 12... planes. With a picasso 96 driver, and nothing more, you can also enable a chunky output (one ring to rule them all ... one hdmi to get aga, saga, picasso96 mode all in one) -this 16bit sound chip will have Paula audio passthrough... No passthrought. You enable a new paula that gives output throught HDMI, and it will be capable of new AHI modes -what kind of software or patches will be useless No patches. The new Vampire has enough space to enable all the features at bootup. -If we have some programs optimised for 060 (visualprefs, some libs, games) it will work or we need to switch for 020 Phoenix is capable to run both, 68020 and 68060 instructions. All the instructions requires 1 clock cycle, so phoenix makes no differences between 68020, 68040 and 68060 |

I'm looking forward for some news on 1200 FPGA accelerators. Anything new - please let us know here.

every additional feature Add time to get that card Ready !!
like vampire 600 first it's was only Turbo card and then + GFX board it's FPGA so you can make HW later if we like to add things in it before it is ready we will newer get it ! there always be something to add just the one little thing "...and then some one is ready to buy it" i ll be very happy to get just Turbo nothing more just make it and i will buy it soon as it ready 7o7 even for A2000 or any Amiga i not have A600 so i just wait and wait... |

I would get an A600 if I were you. And even then there could be a wait involved for the Vampire. I think it took from 2011 until this year to get the 600 Vampire and there is still a long list of people waiting to buy one.

Then came the idea to produce a redesigned board that would be easier to manufacture. That was the Vampire v2. However before it was finalised things changed and lots of new features were added. The next target is to get the A500 version out. That should happen within 6 moths IMO. (could be sooner, but hey, time flies ey) *After* that, the focus will be on the A1200 version. The design for that one is AFAIK not finalised yet. If the A1200 vampire is a 2016 product or 2017, remains to be seen. I for one will get several versions, maybe all ;-) |

I hope other manufacturers (Jens, Mike.. ) will start their projects soon... I'd like to see healthy competition here. :-)

Technically, Jens could do a 040/060 card but it would likely be at the price of 3 Vampires and nowhere near it's speed and feature set. Mike.. Are you referring to MikeJ of FPGA Arcade fame? Well, AFAIK they have zero plans to release accelerators for current Amigas. The FPGA Arcade is a cool product with pretty mature AGA implementation but their CPU speed is not in the Apollo-core ball-park and their board can never be super-cheap. In any case it's a stand alone product, not really competing in the same niche market. Their competition is the MIST board, not the Vampire ; -) IMO, Jens potential high end accelerators have a bleak future but his planned Amiga reloaded mobo should be of interest as a modern platform for the A1200 Vampire. |

Wait a minute... Has even plans for a Vampire Amiga 1200 been confirmed from the vampire team?
Couldn't find anything on google except the abandoned Coldfire 1200. |

I'll confirm that. Anything for big box Amigas are still up in the air beyond the A2000.

I havent paid 100% attention to the IRC discussion, but isnt there a fair chance that the V500 will work, more or less without much tweaks, with A1000 and A2000?

Why not? SATA is just ATA over serial. The commands are the same, only the physical/electrical low-level stuff is different. All it takes is for someone to write an appropriate sata.device and all other existing software (HDToolbox, file systems etc.) will just work. Besides, SATA support is already included with OS4, MorphOS, AROS and so on, so it's not really crazy at all.

SATA isn't entirely crazy but I suspect that the MicroSD controller from the A600 version is more likely to happen.
