I just want to mention that I propose to have the "Gentlemans agreement" not to milk the endless respawning scoregivers also in effect for this round.

Isn't that what we did for the League round? So we should do the same again.

Agreed! And let's just distinguish what we mean. In my view, the silver balls on level 2 and the bee hives on level 1 are fair game - as these can be milked and eventually stop respawning after 10 seconds or so. The ALIEN domes which fire unlimited rocks on the alien level is the infinite score giver - and THIS is the one thing which must be avoided.
Just between us, I think the outcome of this round will be squarely based on lives remaining - as this really racks up the score at the end. My highest lives (in the league) was 35 remaining; which gives a round-about score of 3M - if you clean up every level. 42 lives gives you around 3.2M, 55 lives gets you into the 3.4Million zone. To be honest I'm not gonna get that far, but I'll try to beat my previous 35 lives total just to be sporting. I'll record my play this afternoon as a video so you can all see me dying. Got quite some more diamonds than in the league run. Also the spitten U's are to be avoided in the alien level. Last edited by Harry; 08 January 2012 at 16:50. Reason: Clarification |

3,396,200 Below average run (lost more lives than usual). Didn't milk at all. |

Taking advantage of deliberately scoring points from respawning enemies would be "score leeching" which is explicitly forbidden in the rules, is it not?

Correct - if you can obtain unlimited points it's score leeching.
But as there is a time limit in this game you couldn't leech forever so it would be considered milking which is usually allowed. But since there are so many extra lives to obtain one could "milk" the unlimited respawning U-formed projectiles in the Alien level (5-1) until the time runs out for as many times as he has lives and so obtain probably 10 million or more points (just by standing in a certain spot and keeping autofire on for up to a few hours). Thus we have agreed to not milk in Turrican II. Last edited by john4p; 10 January 2012 at 11:00. |

That's right, we have all agreed (except for Simon and I'm sure he's ok with it) to not milk/leech in this game; - and since we can all complete the game pretty easily anyway, I see no reason not to trust the others. As John says, the only real leeching possibility happens on level 5.1 with the alien domes and 'U' missiles (the 'U' missiles DONT give me any score whatsoever on my version!) - and these can be blasted away quickly to avoid this happening. Leeching would be pretty darn obvious in this game anyway; as completing the game with only 10 lives left but gaining 3 million points would give the cheater away very clearly, and there is no point doing this when the player can simply get more lives and crystals to get a super bonus at the end - and a much better score as a result.
edit: I certainly don't need to stoop so low as to cheat because it's not about the leeching, it's all about accumulating the lives in this game. The more lives the better. Last edited by lifeschool; 10 January 2012 at 19:27. |

It IS(!!) the WHDLoad linked version.
edit: Just checked. WHDLoad Patch version (Floppy) 1.7 (09.07.09) done by Wepl. Seems like a 100% solid patch - no bugs. AS linked. Don't tell me the others are using 'creative' versions again - like on Batman? I think that should be frowned upon. (can't you see me frowning?? ) Last edited by lifeschool; 11 January 2012 at 19:27. |

I use a version which I installed 15 years ago. It might even be that this is the first released version of the install. It has no version info. I thought a cleanly installed Turrican from an original retail disk would be fine, and I can look in the highscore for comparison to earlier attempts. Maybe I should play it once for the knockout with the linked whdload-version.

I use the Melnok cracked ADFs. It's the only 2-disk version that supports 2 disk drives (so no disk-swapping).
Also I own the original T2 floppy disk (T1&T3 as well - those are the only original Amiga games I have) - just no Amiga to use it with. |

For general relief, here is a screenshot of a play with the EAB whdload version. It doesnt make a difference for me.

New all time personal best:
3,525,900 Collected every extra life and 547 diamonds. Only lost 2 lives. Both in the flight levels. And both deaths were really stupid mistakes - so a perfect run is very much possible. Didn't milk at any time - not even the bee hives and falling metal balls. I think I'm going to make a playthrough vid after the round is over. |

^ Nice score John, I can't imagine how well you must have played to not lose any lives, and I certainly can't imagine me getting anywhere near your score. I was going to have another go at this game this afternoon but... I'm a bit overawed by your progress. I may have one more go before the end, just to see how far I can go inside my own personal best.
I'd be interested to see what you make of it if you do make a vid. I'll of course be doing a playguide to Superfrog - the first 16 levels or so - although not to the end 'cus it takes like 2hours to complete. Last edited by lifeschool; 14 January 2012 at 13:49. |
