Honest opinion: AmigaOne X5000 ?

Hey dudes/dudettes,

I'm curious for anyone's opinion about the AmigaOne X5000. Preferably someone that has purchased one and used it in depth. I know it's probably not worth the $2k+ US that it costs to build one of these, as far as raw computing power and capability, but...what's your experience with it?

I'm bored of my MorphOS machines, and am waiting for my A4000D to be recapped so I can build it to be a good OS3 machine. Can we please avoid the general NG Amiga hatred and just get a bit of honest recommendations?

If you're bored with MorphOS, what do you expect of OS4? They're basically the same experience unless you're very picky about user interfaces.

Personally I'd love one to replace my ageing A1-XE G4, but I can't justify the expense. What is it with MorphOS that you're bored of? OS4 is a little different in that it feels more like OS 3 in use, but otherwise, as idrougge points out, there's not much else to do on OS4 than MOS.

MOS is great, but I've used it for years and it is very infrequently updated at this point. OS4 seems like it would be cool to use outside of emulation (where I can't really figure out what to do with it).

Yes... We all know that aos4 is update very frequently. The only good thing about x5000 is that it will run MorphOS.
I think its an expensive machine to what it offer.

I recognize AOS4 isn't updated terribly frequently but I can't run OS4 on my PowerMac. In any case, while I appreciate all the responses, I was really hoping someone that already _has_ one of these would be able to provide a bit of feedback as well.

If you want both MOS and OS4 hunt down a PegasosII, loads of them out there.

The XENA chip looks quite interesting in terms of possibilities, but I don't think anything has actually been done with it? It seems capable of FPGA-like behaviour so you could run classic software natively, but whether it really does is another matter.

The press release and the reviews. I can only dream of having enough spare cash to actually try out the real hardware!

That is the point of the XENA chip though, no?
