JetHunt AGA - coming 2013...
Hi,
After having much more fun coding the Amiga version of Timebomb, I've been working on my next Amiga release. JetHunt is my remake/tribute to H.E.R.O. which I started on the Amiga in 1992 (!) and released finally last year for the PC. After my conversion of Timebomb went so well, I felt it was only fair to release JetHunt for the machine I started it on. The game will require AGA but is already looking quite good. It uses a dual playfield display with a main 16 colour hardware sprite and 256 colour titlepage and status bar. I've had to make a few changes to the PC version, the screen scrolls a little so all I had to do is halve the res on the gfx but I think that makes it look even better. Still lots to do. This will take a while but I'm sure I can do it. [ Show youtube player ] is a youtube vid of it so far running in WinUAE. PC version is here. Fingers crossed.... Coagulus |

Quick update, got some of the baddies in and animated, bombs are dropping but not exploding and each level can be completed. There are some bugs in the map I have to iron out and also the controls need more work. But it's definitely getting there.

Cool - I was thinking the other day about some of the projects that people are working on. Glad to see this update and it's looking pretty cool. I look forward to playing this when it's done

Thanks, still plenty to do but it's definitely getting there this time. I have a lot more resolve than I did in the 90s.
Also, the blue bar in the last vid's background is the classic "see how much frame is left" technique but I accidentally left the debugger on in Blitz, there's loads left really. So far! |

Quick update. Explosions and most of the graphics are in. A few left to convert and add. 3 channel versions of the music done for music and sfx at the same time and keyboard controls added to match PC version.
Found a few annoying bugs too but then when aren't they annoying? no new vid yet as it still looks very similar to the last vid. Next stop: lasers. Coagulus |

Very close to the pc version but I like the new resolution! Sounds identical - is the music sampled loops, or have you constructed new .mod's? I was fortunate to have H.E.R.O on Atari 2600. The best thing I ever bought in Yarmouth, probably .

Progress report: Lasers and bombs are in. Bombs work against walls as does the player. No enemy collision yet but more colour and the intro matches the PC version (nearly). I had to rewrite the intro music as I'd used 12 channels on the PC, oops.

more progress: Got some slight colour splits in to make it look better, made the explosion into a 64 pixel wide hardware sprite as it was slowing things down and got the lamps collideable and got the snake in and animated. Fixed loads of bugs too.
Still plenty of things to do, next step is to get some sfx going. Gonna have 4-channel music, sfx only or 3-channel music with sfx. Took a while to do 3-channel versions of the tunes earlier in the year. Got to do it this year, don't want to have to change the text from "21 years in the making" to "22"! Coagulus |

Quick update, things are still progressing. Sound FX still aren't in but I've fixed quite a few bugs and most of the graphics are in and how they'll finally appear. I've added some more colour splits in to make the levels look funkier too, along with some stars on the titlepage (still no real menu yet, still have to get a font that looks nice. I removed the old placeholder).
The controls still need a little work, I'll get round to it! Here is a vid - [ Show youtube player ] Coagulus |

quick update: you can now shoot the baddies although the exposion needs some repositioning. I've also finished the ending and also started getting the menu in on the titlepage and the panel showing all the info.
Still got collision death, bugs in map, control bugs and highscores to do. And no doubt much more, but it's still "on schedule" for this year. Coagulus |

Main menu is in, now to do the panel. Took a break from the gameplay bit as I needed level select in the menu to make it easier to test the later levels. I'll be back to gamplay now though.

Quick update:
I've rewritten the controls finally (something I should have done on the PC version too!) Lava is in and animated better than the PC version too Level select works in the main menu up to level 9 so far First 9 levels are doable and bugfixed now, 11 to go still no death, guess I should finally get that in! only 3 more weeks of 2013 to go, will I do it...?
