Unhappy Trouble Prepping CF for use as HD on A1200....

Hi

I'm trying to prep a 4GB sandisk CF card for use in my A1200. Following Killergorilla's guide (http://wiki.abime.net/amiga:killergo...winuae_realhdd)

I can get as far as the following:

Changed SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=aehf.device as directed, and as you can see in the screenshot, the CF is registering as "Harddrive" in WB.

Hdtoolbox goes through its scanning and stuff, finds nothing and um... blanks everthing off

The drives there and I can write to it....

kinda lost, any ideas ?

cheers

Andrew

Im guessing its a typo, it should be;

uaehf.device

Then it will work fine.

EDIT:

Or its your typo, .

It could be the card is set to removable, which can cause problems.

Have you tried formatting it in windows, then tried it again?

Also you are disabling the HDD safety check in WinUAE arent you?

It looks as though its seeing it as a CF device and not HDD. How are you setting it up in winuae.

You didn't use "Add harddrive" if you see it in WB..

(removable or not has 100% no effect in emulation)

Shortcut target looks like:

C:\Bench\ClassicWB_UAE\ClassicWB\winuae.exe -disableharddrivesafetycheck

Set up as follows

and

J: of couse being the CF slot on my external USB cardreader. I didnt call it Harddrive - I left it blank. Add hard drive is greyed out for me.

Again. "Add Harddrive", Not add hardfile or directory.

Thought it would be something simple.

Why do you need to run it as admin, your not the admin account of your PC?

Because of Vista's UAC. Even if you are an "admin", you need to elevate your privileges to run real admin stuff.

Well ended up doing it all on the Amiga

Found that I hadn't downloaded all of SFS... (or extracted it properly... whatever)
Got that going and DF0 renamed appropriately with the command as per instructions.
Other partitions not SFS (i.e. games and work) but not sure that matters.... can always sort later.

Ah well CF card works (at last) and all associated doofries.

Daddy loves his miggy again (and can finally shut the case! )

Ah thats why then, first thing I done before installing Vista. Was use vlite to disable UAC, remove Shadow Copy and Restore.

UAC is a biatch.

"Are you sure you want to delete", "yes". "Are you sure", "yes". "Are you 100% sure", "FFS YES!!!!!!"

How wonderful, "standard" Vista complaints. You are 2 years late.

Just make UAC auto accept with the policy editor and you're all set.
