The reference to x2 16 colour palettes wasn't anything dynamic, the screen was 32 colours, 5 planes (same as all other games I did) but all the graphics were 16 colour 4 plane (from the ST). So to take advantage of the Amiga's 32 colours the backgrounds were re-coloured with their own 16 colour palette. Effectively the back 4 planes were background and the front 4 planes foreground blittered sprites (I think ). Hope that makes sense |

Sure!
It has great gfx and music, the controls are good and the gameplay is pretty fast. IMO this is the best 8-bit version. |

Sorry viddi, this is CPC fanboy talk. The viewable screen is way too small, horrible scolling, tiny sprites etc. Nice graphics for a 8-bit version though.

I found the Mega Drive and Arcade versions to be better than any other platform.... I've never played the 256 colour PC version though.

A screenshot doesn't prove playability though.

Exactly, a screenshot doesnt say much about the playability, the framerate, moves and so on. Actually I think the amiga version is 'overcoloured' compared to the megadrive's, which comes much closer to the arcade version in colour, animation and speed.

Arcade version is still the best, next is megadrive (very close to original) and amiga (very good conversion).

to me it's obvious, I prefer Sega Genesis' version to Amiga rendition. Around 1992 used to play both of them and figured out that better color palette wouldn't make up ridiculous single fire button controls and loading times for me. Frankly, I don't really like arcade titles ported to Amiga as I find most of them done in sloppy manner by low budget dev teams.

Why? I already know that these 8-bit versions aren't good. So i don't care if the CPC, ZX Spectrum or C64 version is the best amongst them.

Then:
1. Arcade 2. Amiga 3. Mega Drive Now: 1. Arcade 2. Mega Drive 3. Amiga Don't know why I enjoyed the Amiga version most back then - maybe because I was the only one with a Mega Drive? As for the colour palette, I've noticed that a lot of Arcade conversions over-saturate the colours on home ports. I hate that. |
