Things you thought the amiga was never capable of

After seein the commodor 64 doing interlaced and more than 16 colours on screen it got me wondering about the amiga. So what I want to know has the basic amiga 500,1200,3000,4000 been pushed beond its original specifcation in any way ie more bobs on screen than was origanly intended

You can find lots of technically impressive effects on http://ada.untergrund.net/

Most effects are clever programming, as opposed to actually pushing any intended limits or functionality of the hardware.

The C64 with its VIC was a lot more susceptible to hardware tricks, and the only trick for the Amiga that I can think of right off the bat is the "$102 trick" which is horizontal shrinking of the bitmap done by changing the fine scroll value rapidly across the scanline. If you've ever played Brian the Lion you will see a good example of this effect in the valved background graphics in some places.

A few years ago now, an A1200 was the first computer I had connected to the internet - I remember being amazed that I was able to browse the web, send email and use ftp - absolutely none of my friends had access to the internet at the time...

Burning CD's at 8x speed on standard IDE.

Using USB 2.0 and be good at it.

During the 1993-1998 years I did read a lot about Amy's capabilities, but never actually cared or even dreamed about getting all that software and hardware.

Then came the PSX and the PC later and I forgot all about my Amy...

Around 2001, I had a few nostalgic moments, but it appeared my Floppy has died... I lost hope in bringing my Amy back, due to no info on what's going on with it, or if anyone in the world still uses it... and then I found PPA & EAB.

Anyways, here's the complete list starting from my "medieval knowledge about Amiga" and now:

1. internet
2. mp3's
3. big hd's
4. ps2 mouses
5. fmv's
6. cf cards

nice 1 shoony but i`m after info on the original hardware not addons or normal sofware programing

I`m after info on hidden things, things that the original hardware was thought incapable of doing. The obvious 1 that got incorporated into the hardware are the HAM modes, just a little software trick the yields incredible results.

on a different note i remember watching the spaceballs demo for the first time and after gettin my jaw back up off the floor thinkin that they did all that on an a500

A improvement of HAM6 using the copper: Sliced HAM

And yes Spaceballs was the first amiga demo that truly made me wander in amazement.

Do you guys mean State of the Art or 9 Fingers? After I saw SOTA I was really impressed that they even could improve that in 9 Fingers

Yeah, those incredible two demos from SpaceBalls are so great that I even got a non-Amiga-using friend into thinking this is a real commercial music video
