What's the easiest way to add CD-Rom to A1200s these days?
As the title says, really. What's the cheapest way?
Internal or external, though external is nicer if I don't have to modify my A1200 case. |

Squirrel SCSI & External SCSI CDROM is the easiest, pretty much plug-in, install the software and go - no need to modify anything
Squirrel SCSI should be somewhere around £30 - actually there's on eBay at the moment.. External CDROM anywhere from £5-50 depending on the auction Last edited by Mr.Flibble; 23 June 2015 at 09:52. |

Cheapest is to unscrew the top and connect CDROM as slave to internal IDE. So investment is just a data cable. But its not a aesthetic and having Amiga unscrewed could be dangerous.
I rather like another idea based on USB -> buy Rapidroad for Clockport and use external CDROM. |

I just put the case back on have the ribbon cable coming out the left side. It nips the ribbon a bit where the case marries but it's easier than case modding.

I'm with Arnie. The cheapest and most elegant way is to not use a CD-ROM at all. Create ISOs and transfer them to the Amiga, then mount them using something like diskimage.device.
Browsing collections on CD (Aminet etc.) can be done on the PC (using an emulator, if the need arises). And there aren't all that many CD-ROM games available, especially not good ones Otherwise you'll end up butchering the A1200 case or having an external drive lying around. I don't find either option very appealing. |
