Rastan is way shorter than rygar. Rygar has 30 levels. it's not a 30 minutes game to finish like Rastan.

Which is why it's far better suited to the arcade than Rygar.

I am not the biggest fan of either games, i gave them 1 hour run on mame yesterday, and for sure Rygar is the better game. I also read before what these damn power ups do in Rygar.

Fake news this.

Take a player that hasn't played either games and see which game is the shortest.

Like Robotron before it, Rygar ate coin like no tomorrow.

Rastan... although is a decent game, was not arcade fast action coin eater.

Which is why I rate Rastan higher as an arcade game. Rygar is a great game, don't get me wrong, but for an afternoon with like, a quid in 10ps to your name at Withernsea seaside arcades you'd avoid Rygar like the plague.

At least it wasn't as blatantly a coin-guzzler as later games (Afterburner practically leaps to mine) as you could progress provided you were good enough. Getting good enough would still cost you though.

Ahhh - i do apologise, I was looking at it from Tecmo's point of view.

Gauntlet was a good coin guzzler.

And was another that you'd avoid if you're a cash-strapped youngster - that game couldn't be beaten on a reasonable pay-in unless you had three other mates to pitch in. Single player you'd drop coins in like there's no tomorrow with its health mechanism that constantly drained...

But would make an excellent game for <cough>someone<cough> to port to the home setting - no coins needed and you could play for hours

Truth is Rygar is extremely hard on arcades. It's almost impossible to conplete even at easiest setting on Mame. After 15 tries i got almost all power ups and advanced to level 7 where i lost 1 life and then quickly stripped the 3 remaining ones. Even if you take the star power up the game gets harder immediately, enemies come more frequently and they get faster lol.

I played Rygar in the arcade a fortnight ago, good job it was on free play as I didn't get far at all and I'm not that bad at gaming!

Agreed.

While it's not arcade perfect it's decent enough.

For me Rygar.

The game has more depth to it, but I speak as someone who played both in the arcades back in the day and now Rygar pips it in the MAME era. Like Dunny said it [Rygar] can be a coin muncher, but on MAME you can afford to master Rygar and complete it. With Rastan it becomes repetitive but the atmosphere it produces makes it a nostalgic power house. (Also don't forget Rastan's music [ Show youtube player ] is very, very good!)
