Re-housing an A2000
I know this isn't your everyday project, and I doubt there's anyone out there having first hand experience of it, but I suppose most would at least agree that the A2000 casing is somewhat - limited?
In order to improve cooling, add more SCSI-devices (I have at least two 1Gb SCSI-HDDs I can't use at the moment) and - for that matter - add an improved PSU, preferrably a fanless one (which raises one or two predicaments in itself), the best option would be to throw the lot into some sort of tower. Never heard of an A2000T - but if anyone has any suggestions - or links - on the matter. Do feel free to post. What the heck, simply feel free to post |

There are lots of A2000T projects.
There is no need to get a fanless PSU, new PSU come in silent models with fan, and you will need the fan if you want to be sure your precious Blizzard 2040 do not overheat. Keep in mind the A2000 PSU is a bit special, it has a tick signal. Google tick signal and Amiga 2000 on internet and decide if you need it. The A2000 is troublesome to mount in tower since the motherboard is HUGE, and the video slot is not lined up with the Zorro slots. You will need a maxi-tower. I lost motivation to build an A2000T because the finished product would have been gigantic. In the end is it worth it? Why not get a single big harddrive. |

Get a full tower case, then cut out the a2000's rear panel and fit that to the tower case's back panel.
Easiest way. Then drill and tap holes for motherboard standoffs and you're almost done. :-) |

Amiga will never die!

Remember, if you put your A2000 in a PC tower case it won't be able to deflect cannon-fire or missile attacks any more unless you source a military-spec PC case.

CanĀ“t you use a 2nd power supply ? Use a A2000 power supply signal to turn on a modern ATX power supply. Makes sense to me

Makes no sense. switch the A2000 to use video tick and wire the atx psu to the a2000 motherboard.
Then sell the a2000 psu on ebay for a mint. |

Good plan Jope It's pretty simple to fit an ATX PSU... I managed it a few months back when the C= blew. |

Suppose I'll have to look into the ATX-option. Haven't been quite able to figure the wiring of the A2000 PSU out though. |

I followed this guys instructions: http://www.ianstedman.co.uk/Amiga/am..._supplies.html
Worked fine first time. Just needed to save the Amiga connector from the old PSU and use some terminal blocks. I fitted the ATX inside the C= PSU case to retain the original look and switch positions. |

Looks interesting. Definitely worth a closer examination. Another option might be to simply replace the fan in the original PSU - but then again, I doubt the the original PSU is very efficient, so I might as well go for the entire package..

Now THAT has been my main priority from day one.. Thus the consideration of a fanless PSU. Still, I suppose I really would have to replace the 68040/40 if I was to go for an entirely fanless system. Other than the added bonus of it considering itself to be a WWII fighter in the midst of takeoff, the original PSU seem to do its job as good as one could expect. And should it fail, I have another one, as mentioned earlier.
