A2000 Cd-Rom Setup?

Ok here is my problem. I have a Amiga 2000 1mb 2 floppy drives and an ICD adscsi advantage. No hard drive but want to get a cdrom working on it. I have the cdrom plugged in but the icd install disk doesnt give any options for setting up a cd instead of a hard drive. Can someone tell me what I need to do to get workbench to access the cdrom.

Thanks

You need a cd filesystem and a suitable mountlist.

What OS are you running on the machine?

You need to install a CD-ROM Filesystem onto your workbench disks (Use a backup!)

http://aminet.net/package/disk/cdrom/amicdfs240

If this doesnt work with the vanilla 68000 CPU and 1Mbyte you may have to get ASIMWare's AsimCDFS 3.9

With no hard drive and only 1Mbyte you will be seriously crippled.

GET A HARD DRIVE!

Well it's a start.. :-)

I'm with Alex on this one, try and get a hard drive.. A2091s can be had for around 10 euro nowadays and old 1GB SCSI drives don't cost that much either.

He's got a SCSI card!! An ICD adscsi advantage. All he needs is the hard drive.

Trying to get a CD-ROM to work before getting a hard drive is a bit nuts in the Amiga world... but not impossible.

Yeah semi-nuts unless you're going down the A500+A570 route.

So nuts that Commodore even made a machine with no hard drive and a CD-Rom, and sold it for a premium even without a keyboard.

A570 & CDTV both have CD-ROM drivers and CDFS in ROM, not exactly practical for an A2000.

How does this change using OS 3.2?

Hi,

I am setting up a CD Rom drive (scsi or IDE can be used) on an A2000 under OS 3.2. What changes or needs are required under this version, being I am just learning this newer OS functionality?

For example, I see it is supposed to be able to load ADF's with a click, yet that is also something I can't seem to get functional either. I am wondering if that is due to the disk install I am using vs the CD Rom version, thus I want to get a CD Rom running to see if there is some missing parts from the disk version.

It’s very easy with 3.2. Copy Sys:Storage/DosDrivers/CD0 and CD0.info to Devs: DosDrivers. Adjust the tooltypes to match your SCSI device name and unit number. (You’re on a 2091, right? So the default of scsi.device will work.) Save. Double-click CD0. Done.

The disk version should be identical to the CD version, as the CD version installs from the same ADFs used to make the disks..

If you have c:dacontrol and devs:trackfile.device then you are all set for ADF mounting. Deficons needs to be running of course if you want to have virtual icons that run dacontrol when double clicked, but again part of the default installation.

Hmm that's what I thought. Thanks

Ok will double check that. Trying to figure out why WB 3.2 won't show the CD on the Workbench at all, regardless of the drive or CD I use. Appears fine in HD Toolbox, does the whole spin up routine but no icons appear for anything and in CLI, it errors trying to access the device.

The two CD drives I am testing with work just fine on the other A2000 under 2.04 and 3.1 OS.

Another problem I located, I bought two 3.2 kickstarts from dealers. I assumed the revision of the code on them was the same. Apparently not. Both show different revision numbers in when they are checked.

And depending on which kickstart I put in, I get different symptoms for the issues I have been seeing.

What I don't get, is how there can be multiple versions of 3.2 kickstart in use? I would think it would be kickstart 3.2.0 or 3.2.1, 3.2.3 and so on if there are a bunch of different versions.

The latest one I have is on my other rev 6 board and is rev 47.xx and I assume that is the current latest revision.

Interesting. There are two official 3.2 kickstarts, the latest one was released quite recently.

Which full revisions do you have in your two 3.2 rom sets?
