It will need extra power, only 2.5 inch hd's get their power thru the IDE cable

Just connect an IDE cable to it since it seems to be a male connector and then plug the IDE cable into the CD-rom and jumper the cd-rom as MASTER
Use an AT/ATX PSU and power the cd-rom, you will need some "cd drivers" if the previous owner hasn't already installed that

thank you for advice. i thought there was an easier way. i see 2.5inch to 3.5inch ide cables on ebay all the time and they never mention you need extra power. seems crafty. there is cd software as theres programs in my tools for CDs

easy? man, this is amiga stuff! thats a non standard hook up to start with.... The amiga was never built with cd-roms in mind..it a stretch that you can even use one on a 1200, back then people where happy to have 3.5 floppy disks! Crafty is exatcly the way you need to think.
best luck....

(btw) the first pic looks like a memory expansion with fpu, I think it also has a battery bufferd clock. I'm not a 1200 expert, so I don;t know what brand... is it usefull yeah sure, but you may want to get an accelerator to make that baby fly.

The first photo depicts the 'M-Tec 1200 8MB RAM/FPU/RTC' board.

its a rebadge HAWK by Gasteiner M1202 I have one of these, a solid card I must admit ( I own one ).

you can read more about it here... its worth about £35 on ebay at the moment.

This is only a RAM expansion with the possibility of a 33mhz FPU, sadly your picture proves that you do not have said FPU. but no matter I cannot think of any games that use it LOL.

The maximum ammount of RAM is upto 8MB, it can have 2,4 or 8MB EDO memories.

This card is also PCMCIA unfriendly, if you configure more than 8MB of ram, you will not be able to use your PCMCIA port properly if at all.

An interesting note is that the HAWK board although identicall has its jumper pin that configure memory in a different area on the board.

the other as stated before is a CUSTOM 40PIN IDE job. best thing you could dop before powering on is check what that is all about. just incase anything goes.... iffy...

good luck GB

That explains why it looks exactly like the M-Tec card.

Isn't it PCMCIA unfriendly if it has more than 4Mb installed (like other ram expansion only cards for A1200)??

Yep it is, I once had an 8MB RAM card (no accelerator) and I couldn't use my PCMCIA slot at all. Of course if you have an accelerator this isn't a problem.

4 Meg is the max if you want to use the PCMCIA - use 8 meg and it wont work - Zetr0 helped me configure my jumper setting on my one not so long ago...
