Anyone tried one of these?

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...25585&source=1

It states 13 lumens (equivalent to general 400 lumens... whatever that means!)

@£99 I thought it might make a nice little film projector for use only in the dark??!!

Thoughts?

I spose for £99, its ok. I personally dont recommend projectors at all. Unless you have the bucks needed to replace the lamps almost every year.

This 1 uses leds, aint seen 1 with leds yet. Let us know how it performs.

Oh I wont be buying just yet. I'd want to see it in use. We have MANY different brands at the college where I work. Some are much better than others (Canon = good, Infocus = Pants!).

I find Cannon are fine until you need support.

My Benq PB2250 is bloody marvellous!

It wold be very interesting to see how the led thing pans-out in the future as the bulb-replacement thing can be an issue, especially with some models.

Replace lamps every year? So you were planning to burn it 24/7? :-)

Of course use patterns vary, but every year is a very gross overstatement. Mine has lasted me for six years with rather light use. If the projector is going to be your only display device (why) then it might get expensive, but in that case I guess a CRT projector would be a better choice.

That £99 jobbie would never be anyone's primary display device, because it has a very dark picture.. There are not enough lumens. :-)

I'm pretty sure that 99% of all projector bulb failures are due to people unplugging them and packing them away immediately after use cos they dont know you MUST leave them in standby until the fan has cooled the lamp enough for it to be safe to move!

I've got six here at work and when I first arrived they had replaced perhaps 3 bulbs in the last year. A 10 minute training course for everyone on each model and it's been four years since any needed replacing.

Think ive been misunderstood. In my current trade, our customers use them as TV's. So they get used alot, 2000 is the average for the lamps. Which is an improvement on 3 years ago where it used to be 1000 hours.

We see alot of lamps blown due to them being used as living room TV's. Why people would want 1 as a main TV is beyond me. Sony's LCD projector was a mistake, as they are ment to be main TV's. Due to them being used for long hours the lamps go dull very quickly and the lcd matrix burns, and you end up with different coloured patches all over the screen.

Obviously, in an educational / work enviroment, they aint going to be used as much as joe bloggs sat in his living room.

Also, I didnt say "every year", I said "almost every year".
