Something for the weekend .. when I do it I'll have a look at the require capacitor if you err.. .take a photo and show me EXACTLY where it should be

My first amiga plus broke because I didn't know about the battery leaking. My last amiga plus I just removed the battery and didn't bother with a replacement. The battery leaking may be why the amiga plus doesn't work, if thats the case the amiga will only be good for spare parts.

I will check my A-500+ board in a few days. Hopefully it is written somewhere on the capacitor as I don't have no capacity measure multimeter....

@Felix:

In my A500+ there is a capacitor at C307, which is 10V 1000uF.

Keep in mind though that it is very much possible that your A500+ came without this capacitor as it was deemed unecessary or something like that. Most circuitboards in electronic products have pads for components which arent used through all revisions. All pictures of A500+ motherboards I have seen though have had a capacitor at C307.

A through-hole capacitor is definately nothing that just falls of by mistake without leaving parts of its legs there, so if it really were one there in your A500+ someone must have desoldered it.

Thanks for the help

I spotted the missing capacitor because the legs of the capacitor were still pokeing out the motherboard with no bit on the end

I can now order a replacement capacitor from maplin!

Thanks for your help

Maybe it blew and the owner decided to remove it to hide the problem before selling...

A blown capacitor is usually caused by another problem.. maybe he removed it and said.. "just replace that capacitor and it'll work a dream"..

or the previous owner might have been trying some sort of modification and killed it?

Just a thought... don't go wasting too much cash replacing bits here and there .. 500+'s are cheap enough

Hopefully that is the problem.. seems odd it was removed then

According to bad quality A500+ schematics C307 seems to be filter capacitor for audio preamp's power supply. Your A500+ should work fine without it (minus possible lower audio quality?)

I'm glad I read the post by Bippym. I nearly lost my treasured A500+ 2MB machine. Opened it up after a year and removed the damn leaking battery before it could corrode the pcb! Another month and I probably would of had to bin it. Don't delay, remove that leaking battery today!

@ Toni Wilen

Yes it dose work without this capacitor

I brought it as spares and repairs

When I got it it had a faulty 020 acellerator which when removed the amiga works fine
It had a pice of paper informing of a missing capacitor and the battery needed to be replaced becuase it was starting to leak

Hello, just reading around...

I hear for the first time about the battery leak problem. The battery is IN the A500+, right? If I have an A500 with an A501 expansion, the battery is IN the expansion card, isn't it? I mean, should I worry about this problem if I have an A500 / A600 with RAM expansions (not A500+)?
