AmiExpress/Daydream clone in PHP

I have had this idea for a long time now, and I wanted to check if someone would be interested in realising it.

Imagine a web based /X or dD clone written in PHP. It would be much easier to access than a telnet BBS, and it would be much funnier to use than for example a forum like this one. Atleast for oldskool chaps like us.

Anyone else than me who'd like the idea of BBS:es popping up all over the internet again?

I need help though, I am an ascii artist, not a php coder. I'd gladly make the default logos etc. I actually did the default ascii for dD back in the days.

Maybe this could even spawn a new bbs door scene again aswell.

What do you think peeps?

I got /X running under WinUAE and telnet-able from the outside world. I'd have it up, but not sure of the demand. But in any event, if you have any questions or run into trouble, let me know. There's a couple threads about it (more or less) in prb.apps (or is it req.apps.. anyway).

PCExpress is already the PC's answer to /X (so far as I remember).

The really difficult thing is how much demand there is likely to be. Visiting a BBS is a great nostalgia trip, for sure, but there's no actual use for it.

Everything BBS's used to enable us to do, the internet now has a much better answer for.

Messaging = Email or forums.
File transfer = FTP.
Games = Take your pick!

Having said that, I'm setting up an /X BBS (slowly, I don't have spare time to dedicate to it - thanks to Minecraft). I'm planning on having an emulated Amiga environment for a telnettable connection, as I don't have funds spare to get my A1200 onto a network. The A1200 can have a real phoneline, as I've a spare USR Sportster modem.

I don't think it would be worthwhile spending development time to get PHP (and Javascript, there's no avoiding the need for that) to emulate a BBS environment.
