HGUTL - Retro gaming wallpapers
I've been a 3d artist for about 15 years & a gamer for 25. Recently i decided to mix the two & have been making wallpapers of gaming characters for the last month or so (many of them for the Amiga). I'll be adding more on a regular basis as well..
The website can be found here.. http://hgutl.com Constructive criticisms or requests are more than welcome. |

They look cool! And the darkish background ensures that icons will be nicely visible on the Workbench
Will leech, and maybe convert to an Amiga-friendly picture format to test them. |

Now that was a great idea, however it don't work for me. While I'd love such a quality wallpaper, i'll rather see say the rampage monsters in a cityscape - say on the side of a real building rather than showing all the sprites side by side with some city in the background.
And the space invaders one. the cannon and the aliens side by side? Your adding a new dimension, but your in the same time removing another.. Why not put the computer sprites in a real space setting as a real scene from the game. Same for the fighting games. real streets, a fight in progress with the game sprites as it is in the game but with real settings. So good idea, the execution however leaves a bit to be desired in my eyes. |

I understand what you mean though both the images you describe are already available on the internet.
The aesthetic i'm going for is unfortunately lost on the space invaders characters. The left or right facing of the characters is to indicate if they were friend or foe (like in the final fight wallpaper below). I'm also trying to keep the images quite simple & systematic so they work as wallpapers. I'm still not sure where i'll be taking my every growing army of sprites but i can see myself making more creative stuff like what you said in the future. |
