Man, I loved that war between Atari ST and Amiga.

It lasted, like, no time, and soon the Atari got shunned into that midi-music niche. Only exclusive ST games that I can think of: Bolo monochrome... and Oids? Well, at least those two were good

Presumably you mean ST games that weren't released on the Amiga? Wasn't Super Sprint one (or whatever it's called)?

I've just completed Unreal again (appr. fifteen years passed since the last time). And I still enjoyed it.

What a game! The "Artaban" levels are awesome, though I must admit that the dragon parts are quite tiresome and chaotic. (Except perhaps the last one.)

I was saddened by the fact - though it has nothing to do with the game - that now I only managed to complete it with using quicksave/quickload ("save state"). When I was young, I remember I could finish it in one sitting without dying once. (Just like I did with Gold of the Aztecs and even Shadow of the Beast.)

Oh well, I only get worse as I age. (Or perhaps I simply haven't got that much time to play and learn these games.)

I didn't even remember that the game ended with that strange airplane (???) and the phrase "To be continued..."

What a shame that they didn't keep that promise.

i totally agree with the greatness of this game. xbox/playstation/wii games are all trash next to this masterpiece!

i'm glad there are variations, mostly subtle, between ST & AMIGA games. just gives me another version to conquer. it would suck if they were both identical.

two more screenshots from Atari ST version:

There is no in-game music and game have very simple & only few sounds. No credit screen with animated landscape and bird. Pseudo 3D animation isn't smooth, so playing is hard & annoying. Game is on two disks, not three like in Amiga version.

Dedicated ST programmers must have really hated the Amiga.

"we've got to convert that to the ST????"

Unreal PC tested:

- no options screen with pseudo 3D world
- different Adlib music
- "3D" levels are too fast to play on Pentium 100MHz
- in 2D levels graphics and hero from Atari ST version but game have more colors
- no title or options screen music
- title screen from Atari ST version (ugly, 16 or less colors)
- bad controls scheme (keys D, F for walking, O for jumping...)
- faster loading, even from floppy disk (game is on single floppy, not 3)
