You probably have not installed applications on your system that uses codecs (Editor, Player etc..), try to install LAME MP3 Encoder

It should be installed in C:\Windows\System32, but I think you should install the package like this.

I copied the file into System32, but nothing changed

I will not install the package, i don't like to put stuff in my sytem, unless it is essential

And this is not essential

At the moment i use an intermediate tool to convert from .WAV to .MP3

It works anyway, so it's enough for me

Thanks again for the help AMIGASYSTEM

Probabilmente manca il riferimento nel registro,in any case it is a small installation that can only bring benefits for those who use and manipulate MP3 also because WAV creates files too big.

You are right on the fact that .WAV files are too big

But the real question is: are we sure .MP3 converted file sounds the same as the original .WAV ?

Of course there's a loss in quality but if you encode at 320 kbit/s you probably won't notice the difference...

I'm pedantic like person

I don't like loss of quality

I don't trust if people who invented MP3 encoding tell me that i 'm not able to hear the difference

How can i be sure of that ?

You record/convert whatever you want as .wav (or any lossless format).

You convert the previous file (but keep a copy of it) to MP3.

You randomly (shuffle) listen to both tracks. If you can tell a difference of quality, they were wrong. If you can't tell the difference, they were right.

Then to make you a nest the quality depends on the speed in bit (Bit-Rate), with the 320 Kbit/s recommended by Damiano you lose very little, even 256, up to 192 Bit-Rate the quality remains high, these values are also used commercially to distribute songs digitally on the Web. The minimum quality limit is 128, the so-called CD quality, below this value you will have an analog quality type (the old audio cassettes).

This type of compression is called Lossy and are part of it (MP3, AAC, WMA and Ogg Vorbis etc..) or with small losses of quality that you can never verify with your ears but only with instrumentation.

There are also other compression codecs such as WAV, AIFF called Lossless such as FLACC, ALAC and APE that remain unchanged in quality even after the compession (the files are still of a certain size).

However if you have to record the audio of the games on WinUAE the mp3 is more than fine

--- Italiano ---

So go quiet with MP3 without flooding your Hardisk

I use the right Codec according to my needs and all the Audio or Video programs I use on Windows can save in the desired format.

No compression : WAV (it's not a format, it's a container, usually containing LPCM format). Pedantic person should appreciate the difference (but it's not the image you give of yourself through your posts)

Compression with NO loss of quality : FLAC or TTA (others exists)

Compression WITH loss of quality : OGG, MP3 (others exists)

Personal choice for music compression : FLAC & OGG (OGG beats hands up MP3 - my hears say that ).
I keep MP3 only for players that doesn't accept the two previous ones.

For malko

That's exactly the reason why i'm forced to use MP3

My stereo player doesn't accept WAV files

I don't care of the space, i have space on my HD and external HD exist also

For AMIGASYSTEM

I will continue to use tool for the conversion between WAV and MP3

For my needs it's enough

For ALL

Thanks for all your replies

Okay chip, you were the one who asked if it was possible to record to MP3

Strange that your Player does not accept WAV, all or almost all Players like WinAMP, AIMP3, XMPlay and Quintessential do, the latter I think is the only one that still allows you to recover artist name, song title etc. . (Auto-Tag) with different modes (on Wave you can't save).

--- Italiano ---

I'm talking of the "stereo" player, the USB which i have on my little stereo

That one recognizes only MP3

Well, i know, i wanted record to MP3 in a direct way, but i don't want install anything

No idea what installation programs can do to my system

Since my request IS NOT essential ( i can always do a two steps process ) i renounced to the task

But, hey, really thanks for all your time
