Poor Unfortunate Souls
Hey, it's me again with another hairbrained idea...
There is in the study, sitting alone and unloved, a very handsome 17inch Apple ColorSync monitor! :eek The poor man! Something *MUST* be done! Now my equally lonely A1200 is sitting upstairs with a tiny rubbish composite TV that doesn't exactly meet her needs.... I personaly think she should dump compo's lazy ass and go for something better, like a proper Commodore monitor. But alas... those once young and virile C= screens have been dropping dead lately! Seeing these two poor unfortunate souls fills me with so much pain... I wish I could do something for them... Maybe I can...? Maybe if I can convince A1200 to get some corrective surgery, like an internal Scandoubler/Flickerfixer added so she and Mr. ColorSync could get together VGA style. But poor A1200 has doubts... she is worried that she will no longer be able to play games that display in PAL resolution... what if Mr. ColorSync doesn't like her and simply refuses to display at the right frequency? I bet you can imagine how hard it must be for poor little A1200, so she has asked me to request advice from "those lovely EAB people who helped rescue me from the attic and get my groove back" Can you help these two? Is this a good idea? Is it even possible? What specifications does a VGA monitor need to be compatible with a A1200 with SD/FF? Please help as I have no idea Last edited by rattus; 30 June 2003 at 01:51. |

It sounds like Mr. Colorsync could use some persuasion via a very large axe.
P.S. Don't actually use it, just wave it around and shout a few threats. I think he'll get the idea. |

If Mrs. A-1200 has a scandoubler then there is no problem having fun with Mr. 17" All kinds of 'games' will be possible
But if Mrs. A-1200 doesn't use a scandoubler then she can only communicate with Mr. 17" in some special high resolution mode ( e.g. in Workbench ). No games without a scandoubler |

This is great news! I found a little Apple-VGA adapter and the manual for the ColorSync Display.. the technical specs are:
Input signals * Red, green, and blue video signals * Multiple scan * Seperate Horizontal and Vertical Sync (DDC 1/2B) * DDC clock and data signals * Vertical Refresh: 40Hz to 120Hz * Horizontal Scan: 30kHz to 80kHz This seems okay to you guys? and I think that 640x480 is as low as he can go (1600x 1200 being the max). But I assume the scandoubler will sort that out, right? And what about the flickerfixer? Do I need that too? Sounds like it's a good idea... Ooooooh! And I can upgrade to Bloodwych's ClassicWB Advanced Version! no more stupid stretched icons! |

Notice the horizontal scan rate of 30Khz, this is why you need a scandoubler to change the Amiga output of 15Khz to 30 or there abouts
Let us pray for a joyful reunion of these two |

forget the 640x480 crap, that's for pc/mac type people (ie. brain dead) I havn't seen a 17" monitor yet that won't display 320x256 - but with a good monitor it looks like a mosaic But as far as I can see, if you get these two lonly people together I would expect to see the birth of many, many, coloured pixels |

Now all I need is one of those ScanDoubler/FlickerFixer thingies... Which one is best? I have heard good things about the DCE ScanMagic Internal SD/FF but I want to know what the pros use bear in mind little Miss A1200 is and will allways be a DESKTOP amiga! (she says: "If you even THINK about towering me I will guru your ass!") |

Since I've only used the buil-in flicker fixer on my A3000, I couldn't tell you which one is best to use on an A1200, sorry about that

Most of the scan-doublers/flicker-fixers are using the same design so find the cheapest! The DCE should be fine.
