Morton Strikes Back AGA

Accoding to The One's and AF's reviews (http://amr.abime.net/amr_search.php?...=0&action=Find) for this game, it was available in both non-AGA and AGA flavours. As far as I can tell, the TOSEC only lists the non-AGA version.

Any help in locating the full-fat AGA version would be much appreciated.

HOL (Hall of Light) also only lists an OCS / ECS version. No AGA version...

Hey Alex, I was trying really hard (in the last 3 days) to find the AGA version and was only partialy successfull - 6 levels demo of real AGA version can be downloaded from Aminet. It looks awesome! Btw. All 3 reviews of Morton located on HOL are reviews of full AGA version which is evident from the accompanied screenshots.

It would be great if someone does have this hidden away somewhere in a disk box... Anyone tried finding the original coder?

Yes I did. It wasn't that easy but eventually (with a bit of luck) I have obtained e-mail address of David Parsons, author of Morton. I sent him (on February 22) following e-mail and a few days ago he finally answered...

---------------------------------

Dear Mr. Parsons,

I'm one of the approvers at MobyGames which is a huge games database. Recently some user added to the database your game Morton Strikes Back. I'm planning to add to the database some screenshots from Morton because it is one of my favorite platform games on Amiga (I remember playing it back in 1994 on my Amiga 1200).

Recently, when I was reading old reviews of Morton in 3 major Amiga magazines - Amiga Format, Amiga Power and The One I have discovered that all three magazines actually reviewed the AGA version which was kind of a shock to me because I thought there was only an OCS/ECS version for old Amigas 500/600! I did some searching and found 6 levels demo of the AGA version on Aminet which looks fantastic!

So the reason I'm contacting you is simple: I want to ask you - is it still possible to order from you the AGA version of Morton Strikes Back ? I would love to have it not only because I want to add to MobyGames database screenshots from both OCS/ECS and AGA versions but simply because I like your game and it would be great to have it in my collection.

Thank you in advance.
Jan Berny

---------------------------------

Hi Jan,

Sorry for such a late reply - I haven't checked this email address for a while.

Thank you for your kind words about my game The AGA version of the game was a bit prettier and had smoother background scrolling.
I'm afraid it is no longer possible to order the game from me - it has been many years since my Amiga went into a box.
However, it is possible I have a disk lying around somewhere, but I wouldn't be able to test if it still works. At some point I will have a look around, and see if I can find one - if I can, I will email you and let you know.

Meanwhile, I'm sure the whole game (AGA & OCS versions) should be out there somewhere on the internet if you just want to see the game. As far as I'm concerned, it was so long ago that I consider the game to be free now, so people are welcome to play the game under emulators (or however they choose).

Thanks again for your interest in such an old game!

Cheers,
Dave

He also has Takado by Kingsoft on his list, so if anyone knows how to contact him, that would be great to know

Haha, as you can probably tell I can't read German and Google wouldn't translate it for me.

Apparently

Morton Strikes Back AGA has 80 Levels
Morton Strikes Back ECS/OCS has 60 Levels

According to here

EDIT: Thanks TCD

EDIT2: According to Amiga Power and The One Amiga it has 80 levels, if they are reviewing the AGA version then this would be correct. Can someone confirm the ECS/OCS has only 60 levels?

EDIT3: Lol, sorry for the continuous edits, I hate double posting. As mentioned before you can find the demo under it's original name Smidge at the usual adf sites. "Smidge (demo-playable) (1993)(D. Parsons)"

I have already contacted him in February but he didn't answer even though I told him that my friend Bored Seal would like to create a WHDLoad patch for Morton AGA

Still looking as well. It would be very kind if everyone reading this thread could post on other Amiga forums you frequent, someone out there has to have the game.
