Running a PAL A1200 in the States
I think I know the answer to this but I wanted to double check before I try. If I Connect a PAL A1200 to a Multisyn Monitor, does it matter that the system is PAL or does this only matter when connecting to TV's and 1084's and the like?
I also have the indivision 1200 on order and plan on connecting everything up to an LCD at some point. The A1200 I just won on eBay is in pretty bad shape and I was thinking of getting a NOS system from Amikit if they have any left. Thanks! |

Doesn't matter. Monitors don't have colour system.
Neither a 1084/S have. Only problem could be your monitor don't "like" de 50Hz vertical refresh rate. The vast majority of LCD monitors/TV don't synchronize in less than 56Hz. What do you mean with "bad shape"? Is it fat? Joking, if it is yellowed, pull off the caps and bath 'em in a solution of peroxide (prefer 30~40% concentration) and a bit of Vanish-Oxy (or equivalent) and leave it in the Sun. The caps will recover the original white colour in just a day! |

If its a TRUE multisync monitor, (i.e. can handle low 15Khz screen modes) then you are in for a world of delight
if not, then you are likely going to have to find another input method |

@RKAUER
Yeah the keys are a little yellow, I am thinking about trying the peroxide thing. @Zetr0 Yeah, I have several true blue multisync's. One of my clients had a bunch of old Macs that required them and now they are all on iMacs and newer models that have standard DSUB connectors. Anyway, yeah I should be good but would someday like to use an LCD as well. -So bottom line, the Multisync monitor isn't going to care that the Amiga may be NTSC or PAL. That is all I care about. I would really like a UK spec new old stock 1200. |

Nope Multi-sync / VGA monitors only care for a Horizontal / Vertical signal and R,G and B..

And remember to get a step-up converter or get a new PSU locally.
Be prepared to pay a lot for this shit but necessary device, though :P |

I have to ask, are games designed for PAL a problem for people in the NTSC regions?
Here on the PAL-side of the world pretty much every single CRT TV-set (at least every set I've owned) can adjust between 50 or 60 Hz, and so any software that goes NTSC can be used without problems. What's the situation with PAL games in the NTSC regions? |

Besides getting the NTSC speed up, some PAL games wait for the beam to reach a certain vertical line that is higher than found in NTSC resolutions. Thus, the program will hang as it waits forever. Many intro/trainers have this issue while the original game might have worked directly in NTSC.

@Akira, I already have a power supply for my current A1200, it should work plugged into a Pal one right?
@Leffmann, I used to have a lot of trouble running PAL games on my old Amiga 1200 / 1084 NTSC system. When games did work a good portion of the screen would be missing. Like in Pinball dreams the little metal peg between the flippers was always off the bottom of the screen and other games would have the scores and stuff on the top of the screen missing. |

Even R-Type (yeah ,that old game) don't run in any NTSC Amiga, and it's a waste of time pressing the space bar at ESC before insert the disk on drive.

I think I formulated my question a bit poorly: (or maybe I'm just thick )
Can the NTSC CRT/LCD/whatever TV-sets adjust to display the full 50Hz PAL signal, or are they simply not built to do this? What about the 1084? I want to recall that my 1084 had a dial with which I could adjust between a 50 and 60 Hz to display both modes perfectly. (I'm assuming the NTSC enabled Amiga 1200's and above can do the NTSC/PAL switch in the boot menu, just like the PAL models) |

I guess I had forgotten that you could boot the system into PAL or NTSC. Since I will be connecting mine to a multisync monitor I should be good to go.

I have a PAL A1200 that I bought from AmigaKit and had shipped to the US. I've connected it to my monitor via an Indivision Scandoubler/FlickerFixer (the external kind) and I have no problems whatsoever with the display. I also have an A4000 that Ive set one of the jumpers on it so that it runs in PAL, and no problems at all. Hope that helps! Mark |

Most of the Amiga/Commodore monitors were built with PAL/NTSC modes. CRT TVs sold in the US do not have PAL compatibility.
