@alexh: do you have a link to get the board for $40? I would pay $40 for an SD/FF.
@hurtz, and anybody else who wants an NTSC-only board: PM me with the number of boards you want, and your location (zip code or postal code) so I can estimate the shipping charge. If there is enough interest (10 or more boards) I will do a run. If enough people PM me, I'll start a thread in the marketplace to discuss pricing and other details. @mrodfr No one can guarantee that the board won't damage your Amiga if it malfunctions, but I doubt that a bad/broken board will do any damage. The board only connects to outputs on the Amiga, it doesn't send any signal back that could mess things up. Just don't plug or unplug it while it's powered on . I tested my external NTSC board with my A600 and Panasonic 34" HDTV (a big honkin' CRT). It looks great, even in interlaced modes because the TV has its own de-interlacer (flicker fixer). I tested NTSC Hires, Super-hires, and their corresponding interlaced modes. S-video is sharper and more colour-correct than composite video, but not sharp enough for the super-hires modes. Text is readable, but the edges are too soft. The TV could not display any PAL modes, though my 1084 can. I'm not sure how that works given that the encoder is hardwired as NTSC, but it works. I was able to use the composite and s-video outputs at the same time with no problem. The quality of the composite is on par with the A600's own composite output. I may build the circuit Jope mentioned to add s-video to the A600 using it's own encoder chip for comparisons later, I think I have all the necessary parts. As I expected, Productivity mode could not be displayed, all I got was a wonky off-colour image. EDIT: Yes, I do like the name . |

My bad they are / were $48 They are 16-bit only meaning you loose colours why trying to display AGA, however lots of Amiga scandoublers were only 16-bit |

I know you make the stuff for the fun, for help the amiga users and for using your skill for making hardware and sure you don't want to do constant business ????. what are your projects ??? |

@narmi: I would buy a ntsc-device too if I can use it with my german A4000. I want to connect the S-Video-output of this device with my PCI-TV-card to bring the signal of PAL/NTSC-games to my LCD-Screen. Will this work?

@nujack: I think you'll need a PAL version, but I'm not sure. I don't know what clock frequency (/CCK) a German A4000 will output on the video port when it shows an NTSC screenmode. I'll have to probe my PAL A500+ to see what it does when I select a NTSC screenmode. My A600 seems to output an NTSC /CCK even in PAL screenmodes, though the horizontal and vertical clocks seem to change to PAL.

Man I cannot tell you how long I have been dreaming about being able to hook up my A500 via s-video. I'm getting ready to mod my C64 for that as well. I have no desk space for a 1702 monitor so I see it fitting to just plug these precious gems into my tv card for my PC. Well a different one I have yet to buy my Wintv150 has a delay due to the encoding-but non the less I am happy that you all have been doing this.

hello,
I also would like to have a great PAL signal to send to my pctv pci TV card on the elbox mediator (comp or svideo) to have a great PAL amiga on a window for playing with whdload games. also maybe send the PAL to a futur flat monitor or TV LCD (I don't know). It's a verry great hardware. I would like to have the hardware reliable (well made and robust) and can be used in a large range of possibilities. There is also no problems for me if last minuts improvement must be made (or not) to be even better ;-) I think with some publicity, It wil be possible to found a great number of new customers (I don't make publicity myself for the harware, just to keep all calm). If zetrO have a Paypal account, easy to pay the hardware and postage. hope my english is OK on all the answer :-) |

Hi guys,
As an update, this week I will be etcing / assembling and posting to DrF Methanoid Charlie from this i will have an idea on howmuch it will cost for future runs I will start a thread / post in the market place with a cost (including pictures and postage) for PAL versions of Internal and External Units and paypal is always an option, I will not be asking for any money untill the unit is complete and you are happy with it... I will need Narmi's help in sourcing some components (again) if thats okay with you sir! |
