Graphics File Format information

Does anybody have any info on the following graphics file formats: .cmp, .csh, .set?

They were used in Phantasie III: The wrath of Nikademus and maybe in other SSI/Westwood games.

Any help, clues, links mucho appriciato. Thanks.

Anyone? Apparently the same formats were used on the Atari ST version.

They don`t ring any bells.
It wasn`t uncommon for games to have their own custom format.
However, you might be suprised to find that they could be iff or ilbm or something, and just renamed..

You (or someone) would need to inspect the actual files.

I think they are Westwood's format. One of the EOB threads, talk about CMP

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=24296

There's an uncps tool at that link.

Ah, found the file structure...

Thanks for the replies guys! I've been analyzing the cmp files for Phantasie III and they seem to differ some from the EOB ones. EOB is the newer game so maybe they've upgraded the format.

The P3 CMPs seem to be: first 16 shorts with palette values / 2 and then another short with file size, and finally file size nr of bytes of some kind of compressed data.

Maybe one of the compression schemes from EOB can be used to uncompress the data, I have to investigate further. Thanks again for pointing me to the EOB project!

Hello,

I bump this thread because i've made a sprites viewer for Phantasie III. It can read .cmp, .csh and .set files.

It can extract Phantasie I, II and III encounters to PNG and GIF format too.

You can see the result here: http://bringerp.free.fr/Temp/P3/Encounters.html (temporary page until the phantasie section on my site is up)

If you're still interested, i can upload the sprites viewer here.

PS: Can you check my thread on my Phantasie I, II and III dungeon viewer: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=51959
