Amiga 1000 with Phoenix MB no video
Hi all,
I recently acquired an Amiga 1000 with a Phoenix motherboard. The previous owner said that it hasn't booted ever since he bumped a memory expansion plugged into the side. He went as far as ordering a new CPU but then the PSU died and he shelved it. I've checked and added a PSU. I was able to use my working A500 to confirm that the CPU and both CIA chips were no good. I've replaced these with known working ones but I'm still not getting any video signal. I tried removing the Kickstart ROMs (I was hoping it might prompt me for a Kickstart disk, but it had no effect). I also removed the floppy drive just in case it was having an effect. I'm wondering if anyone might be able to suggest what I should be checking next? If bumping a memory expansion killed the CPU and CIAs... what else is likely to have been effected? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. |

No video signal of any kind, or just black raster screen?

Pretty sure it's no signal.
I've tried two screens (not CRT) that both work with my A500 (to some extent) and I've tried the composite and RGB out on the Phoenix but the screens show "no signal". I'm guessing that's a bad sign. |

Congratulations on getting one of the rarest Amigas around. I think you're in for a lot of component level debugging. Do you have an oscilloscope and other test equipment? Does the A1000 make its tones on power on? (Does a Phoenix even do that?) I would be looking for activity on clocks, buses, look for video output and see what is going on in the video chain. Any HSYNC/VSYNC activity at the connector? What is the video output in a Phoenix - same as A1000 Vidiot circuit? do you see activity on the individual color channels? How about on the output side?

Thanks all.
Yes I can hardly believe I got it. An A1000 Phoenix was my first computer. Hand-me down from my brother. I sold it to get an A1200 and only found out later it had a Phoenix board in it. I have been reading about intric8's phoenix and picked up some tips from them. Forgot amigalove had a forum though. I'll see if they have ideas. Just in case... - No sounds from the Phoenix when powered on - I checked the PSU tick with a scope... 50Hz - The HSync and Vsync are giving me a flat 5V (Csync is a flat at about 2.4V) I'm wondering if this might narrow it down a bit? Otherwise I'll keep working through the list from aeberbach (many thanks for that). I guess I'll also try testing more of the chips in my A500... Should it work if I try the 8372A Agnus from the Phoenix in my A500 which currently has an 8371? |
