Racing up a mountain
Not Amiga related this, but I was playing Auto Modellista last night on the Gamecube emulator, and I had a blast on the track where you start at the bottom, and race up a twisting mountain road. So my question is, what other games (on any platform) have races like that? It reminds me of Initial D but I don't have much knowledge about that series!

Hmmmm, I'm sure one of the early "Need For Speed" series had some great mountain racing. If only I could remember which one...

Sega Rally and Initial D both had Japan only PS2 ports. Sega Rally is amazing and as arcade perfect as they come, and fully in English. Initial D seems like a lot of fun from what I played but tough going to get started as it is 100% in Japanese. There are guides on the web though to help you through the menus.
If you're emulating Gamecube already you should find PS2 a doddle. You could of course use MAME for these two but the PS2 ports are optimised for joypad control. |

Try Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2 for PS2, it has a road climb race along twisty roads at night. I got it for $10 brand new few years back.
I have InitialD for PS3 imported from Japan. The game is fun, but very arcadey. |

I tried Need for Speed Carbon last night, it really doesn't look too good on Dolphin (messed up movies, missing music). Maybe I'll try the PS2 version instead. I'll have to get InitialD and Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2 and give them a go as well.
Oh, I and love Sega Rally! Pumped a fortune into that machine when it was released. I also have the Sega Model 2 and Model 3 emulators on my PC. |
