Here you go ... Beta 6 and I love this update because it has all the score sprites showing properly! Check it out!

Also fixed the difficulty... the Bonus appears every 5000 points now instead of 1000 which allowed @DamienD to complete the game

Also hi scores are now only saved when you quit the game which you can do by pressing Escape or Left mouse button at any time.

Enjoy!

Hi-Score is the key mate... getting those 50000 bonuses.

I just tried a game and got to level 4 and lost didn't score too good.

Mind you I'm half cut.

Did you forget to uncomment this as game stopped after completing stage 63

Also, experienced another bomb in the top left corner:

Oh, forgot to mention another small bug.

Let's say you are on top of a platform and a metal bird is underneath. It doesn't seem to have to go around the platform edge and then up to get you... When it's about 1 - 1.5mm away it just magically appears on top of the platform.

A suggestion for the next version. Could you make only <left mouse button> exit the game / save high scores and put <Esc> back to jumping to the title screen (like in "bombjack_beta_5E.adf")?

This is useful if you have a rubbish start and want to try again without reloading the game from floppy

Check your PM's mate.

btw... not sure if you collect the bombs in order.

I've done a run through of how to play properly just in case (also for my benefit to iron out bugs )

I do try to collect the bombs in order but can't do this everytime...

When done successfully I've been take to the screen after completing the stage saying "Well done, you've collected 22 fire bombs" and you then get a substancial bonus

Here's a huge update to the game here, to the point that it is just about finished.

Changes/Additions are as follows:
  • Fixed various collision bugs
  • Fixed various GFX bugs
  • Fixed save hi-score routines (you need to End the game to save the score)
  • Added all Sound FX - thanks to Saimon69
  • Added 4 new Beer edition rounds. The rounds can only be played by getting a bonus between 50,000 and 250,000 points after each 5 rounds. Depending on the bonus achieved you will play the next round and be able to score a huge amount of points for each Bomb collected.
  • Between 50,000 and 99,000 you'll play the Penshaw Monument round - each bomb collected will get you 1,200 points.
  • Between 100,000 and 149,999 you'll play the Chichen Itza round - each bomb collected will get you 2,000 points.
  • Between 150,000 and 199,999 you'll play the Edinburgh Castle round - each bomb collected will get you 3,000 points.
  • Between 200,000 and 250,000 you'll play the Big Ben round where each Bomb collected will get you 5,000 points.
  • Added the ability to disable/enable sound and music.
  • Also changed is the difficulty, the difficulty now mimics the Arcade on medium dip switch setting.

Known issues:
  • The club enemy is severely broken, it needs fixing and is my highest priority.
  • If Jack finished the round by collecting the last bomb and dies then the next round is skipped.
  • There are a few GFX glitches remaining under some circumstances.

The game will get a final release in the next week or two, I will not be coding anymore on the game after May 19 as I have some family and work commitments that will see me busy for at least till November.

Enjoy the game - if you do spot a bug then let me know.

The game has been tested on an A500 with 1mb of ram 512Kb Chip / 512 Fast. The game is known to work on other models including the AGA machines (in fact I know it does) but I can only say I have tested it on WinUAE and on my real A500. After May 19 I will release the source code and the guys here may be able to fix up compatibility if it crashes on the accelerator stuff.

ADF here - http://109.228.4.199/bombjack_beta_7a.adf

Enjoy.

I had not left any comments in this thread yet.
But since it's one of my favorite games of all time (I've been a country champion so many years ago ),
I give you huge compliments for what you managed to do!

Don't worry mate, I'll be sticking around here lots - just lots of family and work commitments during the summer is all (example being that it's my 10th Wedding Anniversary on 30 May, I wanna make sure I get there before she divorces me , summer hols with a 2 year old, World Cup, Work, more holidays... ) will have no time to code till November.

Anyway, here's a couple of videos showing two of the four beer rounds (skip to round 6 to see them)

I don't think the original arcade had music on the titles though did it but that was a tune for something like the highscore?

As there wasn't any on the title tune in the arcade would love the title screen in a later build to be the other title tune from the C64 to put more verients on the non gameplay areas music not being the same one.

Plus the people love that C64 tune anyway.

Cool I like Bombjack.
I can do try test it on different setups.
But think I'm a bit rusty to the game.
